NEWTON, Kansas - Jackrabbit golfers
Jack Tanner and
Liam Georgiadis finished top-5 at the Summit League Golf Championship Tuesday to lead South Dakota State to fourth place in the final team standings.
Tanner shot a 70 (-2) in the final round, one of the best scores of the day, to finish in third place (211, -5). The junior started his day going 1-under on the front nine with one birdie before matching that score on the back half of the course with two more birdies and only one bogey hole.
Georgiadis took fifth after carding a 72 (E) on the last round. He used four birdies and an eagle to battle back from a +3 first hole to end the day even par. The sophomore totaled a 214 (-2) over the three rounds.
As a team the Jackrabbits posted an 865 (+1) final tally and ended one stroke shy of Oral Roberts' third place finish. SDSU's +1 score to par is the team's best of the season.
Freshman
Ty Kretz shot a 70 (E) Tuesday to jump 10 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 16th place (219, +3).
Jonah Dohrer and
Matthew Schaefer tied for 32nd place with matching 228 (+12) scores.
Tanner and Georgiadis were named to the five-player all-tournament team.
Denver edged North Dakota State for the team title by one shot. NDSU's Nate Deziel led all three days of the tournament and set a new Summit League Championship record at -13 to earn medalist honors.
