BUSY WEEKEND STARTS IN HIGH GEAR FOR JACKS

LONG BEACH, CA – Multiple top 10 finishes and a new school record highlighted the first day of competition for the South Dakota State track and field teams at the Pacific Coast Invitational on Thursday.
Pierre Lear again made waves in the 110-meter hurdles after breaking his own school record for the third consecutive week. This time, he ran a 13.75 to take second place overall in the event en route to history.
The women's 4x100-meter relay team of Ashtyn Bertram, Jenna Johnson, Rich-Ann Archer and Jaiden Boomsma started success for the day by running a 46.92 for an eighth place finish.
Archer claimed 17th in the 100-meter dash with an 11.92 while Bertram finishes 68th with a 12.54. The duo then each competed in the 200-meter dash and finished 15th (24.59) and 51st (25.81), respectively.
Cerington Jones ran a new outdoor personal best of 54.84 in the 400-meter dash, which is now second in school history, for third place while Lauren Van Dyke took sixth in 56.54. Erika Kuntz was 19th (58.34), Jenna Johnson finished 20th (58.39) and Hannah Whitbread came 25th (59.00).
The women's 4x400-meter relay squad of Johnson, Van Dyke, Whitbread and Kuntz wins the event with a time of 3:51.29.
Harley Fischer took 14th place overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:19.02.
Faith Leiseth competed in two events on Thursday, taking 34th place in the shot put with a throw of 44-06.75 and 44th in the discus with a 143-11.00.
Boomsma took eighth place in the long jump with her mark of 19-01.25 while Layne Kirkendoll represented SDSU in the high jump and took 23rd overall with her height of 5-01.25.
In men's action, Jared Wipf, Reid Pierzinski, Evan Henderson and Emmanual Phoulom-Smith ran a 41.47 in the 4x100-meter relay for fifth place overall and the ninth fastest time in school history.
Wipf clocked a 10.57 for 10th place in the 100-meter dash as Henderson took 20th with a 10.63. In the 200-meter dash, Wipf ran a 21.81 for 20th place overall while Henderson clocked a 22.20 for 34th place.
Reggie Slaba took 13th in the 400-meter dash in 48.69 seconds while Thailan Hallman finishes 17th in 49.06.
Slaba and Hallman then teamed up with Phoulom-Smith and Pierzinski to take first place in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:16.28.
Matt Katz finished in 12th place of the pole vault with a clearance of 16-05.25 while Jaden Peters took 19th with a 15-11.25.
Connor Powers cleared 6-07.00 in the high jump to take 12th place in the event.
Tristin Hanna leaped his way into sixth place in the triple jump with his mark of 46-05.50 and Tre Manning took seventh place in the long jump with his outdoor personal best mark of 24-01.75, which is now fifth on the SDSU all-time list.
SDSU athletes will continue competition on Friday at the Beach Invitational, the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Jim Duncan Invitational.

Reggie Slaba took 13th in the 400-meter dash in 48.69 seconds while Thailan Hallman finishes 17th in 49.06.
Slaba and Hallman then teamed up with Phoulom-Smith and Pierzinski to take first place in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:16.28.
