SDSU EARNS SEVEN BIDS TO NCAA WEST PRELIMS

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – South Dakota State track and field has earned seven declared entries to the 2023 Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships Preliminary competition, the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee announced Thursday.
Thomas Breuckman, Dominick Etherington, Pierre Lear, Joseph Minor-Williams, Reid Pierzinski and Hunter Wallster will all represent SDSU at the West Prelims in Sacramento, CA beginning May 24.
Athletes earn qualifications by ranking in the top 48 of their respective events or the top 24 in the relays in the West Region. The top 12 finishers of each event at the West and East Preliminary Rounds will compete at the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas from June 7-10.
Minor-Williams earned two bids for SDSU in the 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter runs, which are each events where he is the reigning Summit League champion. Pierzinski also enters the competition as a four-time conference champion of the 400-meter hurdles.
Wallster comes into the meet having just broken the school record for the hammer throw while finishing second at the conference championships. Lear (110-meter hurdles) also finished second in his event while Etherington (shot put) finished fifth and Breuckman (800-meter run) took eighth in the league.
