EMPORIA, KS – The South Dakota State track and field team made its outdoor season debut at the Emporia State Relays, tallying three event wins and a new top 10 performance.
Laci Leverty started the season off strong, winning the pole vault with her outdoor PR of 12-00.50 which is now sixth on the SDSU All-Time List.
Kiah Boetel also finished sixth in the event with a 9-09.00.
In additional women's action,
Jaiden Boomsma sped to third place in the 100-meter dash in 11.84 seconds as
Maggie Madsen was fifth in 12.08 and
Rich-Ann Archer was eighth in 12.13.
Boomsma (24.50, PR) took third in the 200-meter dash while Madsen (24.89) came sixth and Archer (24.96) was seventh.
Three Jackrabbits finished right in a row in the 400-meter dash, with
Erika Kuntz (57.30) in third,
Emily Rystrom (57.92, PR) in fourth and
Jessica Boekelheide (59.41) in fifth.
Laure Bogue clocked a 1:06.60 for sixth place overall in the 400-meter hurdles.
In the 1500-meter run,
Nina Dawson ran a PR of 4:46.45 for third place as
Nicole Swanson made her Jackrabbit debut with a time of 5:06.53 for 21
st.
Madison Kizer won the high jump with her height of 5-06.00 as teammate
Layne Kirkendoll took fourth with a 5-01.00.
Camryn Brinkman led a trio of Jacks to the triple jump finals, finishing second with a 35-10.50 as
Apryl Adderley (35-05.75) was third and
Emma Smith (35-03.24) was fourth.
Josie Curry made her javelin throw debut and finished eight with her mark of 122-10.00.
On the men's side of action, three Jackrabbits made their 110-meter hurdle debuts:
Carter Johnson (15.22, 9
th),
Ben Morningstar (15.69, 15
th) and
Aiden Voss (19.05, 28
th).
Jake Werner finished third in the 200-meter dash with a 10.40 (+6.6 m/s) as
Hudson Schroeder (10.52, +6.6 m/s) came 10
th.
Evan Henderson (10.71) and
Andrew Law (11.43) each ran new PRs.
Thailan Hallman clocked a 48.68 in the 400-meter dash to finish fifth overall.
Sam Castle took fourth in 1:56.29 in the 800-meter while
Andrew Moeller ran a 1:56.93 for sixth and
Sean Murphy finished eighth in 1:57.35.

th) each made their 1500-meter run debut as
Tyler O'Neill ran a PR of 4:11.14.
Tristen Hanna took third in the triple jump with a mark of 47-05.25 while
Rylan McDonnell (23-02.75) and
Hudson Schroeder (22-08.00) each qualified for the long jump finals, taking third and ninth, respectively.
Connor Powers finished seventh in the high jump with his mark of 6-04.25 while
Matt Katz won the pole vault with a 15-04.25.
Ethan Fischer took second in the discus throw with a mark of 169-01.00 as
Caiden Fredrick made his event debut and finished third with a 166-03.00.
Fredrick also made his debut in the hammer throw, finishing in ninth place with a mark of 151-00.00. He then took fifth in the shot put with a 53-02.75 as
Lee Reiser (51-02.25) came seventh.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Olson, Werner, Toews and Henderson clocked a 41.61 for a fifth place overall finish.
Competition will resume on Friday at the Washington University Distance Carnival at 12:10 p.m. while the Mike Fanelli Track Classic starts at 9:30 a.m. PT and the Stanford Invitational will kick off at 10:30 a.m. PT. The Texas Relays starts at 9 a.m. and the Bobcat Invitational begins at 10 a.m.
