WEEK 5: South Dakota State at Summit League Outdoor Championships |
BROOKINGS, SD – South Dakota State is set for the 2024 Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships in St. Paul, MN this weekend, with action slated for May 9-11.
The multi events will be the lead-off action on Thursday, beginning at 10 a.m. as field events start at 11 a.m. and track events start at 7 p.m. Friday action resumes at 9:45 a.m. with the multi events, 4 p.m. with field events and 6 p.m. with track events. Finally on Saturday, field will start at 11 a.m. as track will kick off at 1 p.m. in the final day of action
Leah Hisken isd SDSU's lone returning champion, as she looks to defend her 2023 outdoor championship titles in both the 5k and 10k.

REGIONAL RANKINGS: The seventh weekly regional ranking by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association was released on May 7, with the Jackrabbit men jumping two spots to 15
th and the women maintaining 19
th.
WERNER HONORED BY SUMMIT LEAGUE: Jake Werner was recognized as the TicketSmarter Summit League Men's Track Peak Performer of the Week after a fierce performance in Vermillion, league officials announced May 7.
Werner sprinted to victory at the USD Tune-Up, taking the 200-meter dash crown in a flat 21.00 seconds. His new personal best is now second in SDSU history and is currently the top mark in the Summit League this season.
This is Werner's second career weekly honor and his second of the season (previously on 4/9).
He is joined by
Nora Peterson as the two Jackrabbits to earn the honor so far this season, as she was recognized on April 30.
MEN PICKED THIRD, WOMEN FOURTH IN PRESEASON POLL: The Jackrabbit men were chosen to finish third while the women were picked to finish fourth in the 2024 Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Preseason Poll, league officials announced on March 6.

- Won the discus at the Monday Meet with a throw of 169-4 (51.61m)
- Placed in the top three in the discus in five competitions last season

- Took first in the high jump at the Mt Marty Twilight with a jump of 5-7 (1.70m)
Pierre Lear, South Dakota State

- Qualified for the NCAA West Prelims in the 110m hurdles where he finished 28th overall (14.01)
- Took second in the 110m hurdles at the League outdoor championships with a time of (14.09)
- Clocked a career-best time of 13.78 in the 110m hurdles at the Bryan Clay Invitational
A LOOK AHEAD: Should SDSU have any qualifiers, the NCAA West Regional Prelims will take place May 22-25 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
