BROOKINGS, S.D. — South Dakota State controlled its non-conference match at Fishback Soccer Park from the start and eventually had four goal different goal scorers in a 4-0 victory on Thursday, Sept. 12, over Wayne State.Â
Â
The Jackrabbits held 70% of the possession during the meeting and were dominant on the attack. SDSU had 21 first-half shots and eventually finished with 34.Â
Â
South Dakota State got out to an early lead when a left-footed boot from the top of the box by
Mia Bosch in the fourth minute got past the diving keeper. The Jackrabbits extended the advantage in the 25th minute when a
Katelyn Beulke pass found
Avery LeBlanc who struck a right-footed shot into the net to make it 2-0.Â
Â
The Jacks went into the halftime break up by two goals. The Wildcats continued to keep SDSU at bay for nearly 40 minutes into the second half before the Jackrabbits broke the game open.Â
Â
Avery Murdzek passed the ball to
Zoe Wittkop who dribbled down the left side of the field. Wittkop got the ball into the box and sent it to Beulke with a defender on her back. The sophomore forward snuck a shot past the Wildcat keeper in the 83rd minute to give SDSU a 3-0 advantage.Â
Â
SDSU added to its tally in the 86th minute. A Sophia Hoffman shot was initially saved, however
Jenna Hallen was in the right place on the deflection and knocked the ball into the net to close the scoring with a 4-0 edge for the home side.Â
Â
The Wildcats finished the contest without attempting a shot. It's the first time in the SDSU program's history that the Jackrabbits have held an opponent shotless. Â
