"We are looking forward to opening the 2025 portion of the season this weekend. It will be the first step towards the conference championships, which is slated to start at the end of February. As always the first meet back after the holiday break is interesting, and I look forward to seeing how our student-athletes perform."
ATHLETES TO WATCH
Madison Kizer will be a student-athlete to keep an eye on as the year progresses. Last season, Kizer scored a spot at the NCAA West First Round in high jump, finishing 43rd in preliminaries with a jump of 1.66m. This year, Kizer has seen action in two meets, finishing first with a mark of 1.73m at the SDSU Holiday Open, and second with a jump of 1.72m at the Dakota Alumni Classic. Kizer will represent the Jackrabbits in the high jump at the USD Alumni Meet.
Jaiden Boomsma is another expected standout for the Jackrabbits. Like Kizer, Boomsma has competed in two meets so far this season. Boomsma took gold with a mark of 5.75m at the SDSU Holiday Open, and second with a jump of 5.96m at the Dakota Alumni Classic. Boomsma will be competing in long jump at the USD Alumni Meet.
Jared Wipf saw an excellent start to the season as the senior clocked a new program record of 6.71 in the 60m to finish first at the SDSU Holiday Open. Wipf also finished fourth in the 200m with a time of 21.95 at the same meet. Wipf will represent the Jacks in the 60m dash.
Caiden Frederick saw a solid start to the season as the sophomore captured two top-five finishes at the SDSU Holiday Open. Frederick placed fifth in shot put with a mark of 16.18m before winning discus with a throw of 52.65m. Frederick will compete in both the shot put and the weight throw at the USD Alumni Meet.
LAST TIME OUT
The Jackrabbits closed out 2024 at the Dakota Alumni Classic. For the men, Pierre Lear kicked off the night with a bronze medal in the 60m hurdles, posting a time of 7.99. Over in field events, Jaden Peters competed in the pole vault, finishing with a mark of 4.85m to take bronze. Hunter Wallster and Ethan Fischer represented the Jacks in the weight throw. Wallster finished runner-up with a mark of 19.49m and Fischer took bronze with a throw of 18.27m.
Sian O'Sullivan represented the women in the 60m dash, finishing third with a time of 7.61. Over in field events, Boomsma finished runner-up in long jump with a mark of 5.96m. Kizer led the team in high jump with a mark of 1.72m to take silver. Mildred Young rounded out the meet with a new personal record of 14.33m to take silver in shot put.
