BROOKINGS, S.D. — South Dakota State's Cody Larson heads to Columbia, Mo., to compete among the best distance runners in the country at the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning.
HEAD COACH ROD DEHAVEN
"Cody has worked hard to get to the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Some of his motivation definitely came from his experience at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June and seeing Carson Noecker compete at last year's championships. He has a remarkable season, and like every student athlete in the meet, he will be shooting for a top 40 placement and All-American distinction. He ran well on the course in October, he understands the challenge, and he is looking forward to letting it rip on Saturday."
THE MEET
The NCAA Cross Country Men's 10K Championship race will begin on Saturday, Nov 22 at 10:10 a.m. in Columbia, Mo., at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course.
Larson earns a trip to Nationals after finishing 13th at the NCAA Midwest Regional meet with a 10K time of 30:37.1. Before his qualifying performance at the regional meet, Larson won the Summit League Men's Conference Championship with an 8K personal record of 23:15.59.
The South Dakota native will become the sixth Jackrabbit in program history to attend a DI NCAA Cross Country Championship meet. Prior to Larson, Garry Bentley earned a spot at the Nationals meet in 1972-74, with fellow Jackrabbit and South Dakota native Cyle Wold joining Bentley in the race in 1973. Trent Lusigan was the third runner from SDSU to earn a bid to the championship in 2013. Lusigan qualified a second time in 2015 alongside Joel Reichow, who qualified once again in 2016. Lastly, Larson's former teammate, Carson Noecker, became the fifth Jackrabbit to make the NCAA National meet in 2024. Both Wold and Larson have been the only South Dakota natives to earn a trip to the NCAA Championship meet in the Jackrabbit uniform.
