FARGO, N.D. - The South Dakota State volleyball team clinched at least a share of the Summit League regular season title Thursday night with a 3-1 win over North Dakota State at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
SDSU's conference crown is its second in as many seasons and third since joining the Summit League in 2007. The Jackrabbits improve to 13-0 in conference matches and 19-3 overall. NDSU slips to 13-9 on the year and 7-5 in the Summit League.
The Jackrabbits scored 25 points in all four sets, but dropped the opener 27-25. SDSU took the next three, 25-20, 25-22, 25-20. The Bison did not go away easy on their home floor, putting together a run in each of the final three sets to keep the Jackrabbits within striking distance, but SDSU was ultimately able to pull away.
The Jackrabbits tallied 56 kills as a team with three players reaching double figures.
Sylvie Zgonc led all players with 17 kills for the match to go with 14 digs for her 12th double-double of the year. Zgonc also had two ace serves. SDSU's middles,
Sydni Schetnan and
Madison Burr, put down 14 kills apiece.
Rylee Martin dished 46 assists, which matches her career high for a four-set match for the fifth time this year. Martin also recorded a pair of ace serves and had eight digs.
With Schetnan leading the way, SDSU notched 12 blocks as team. Schetnan had three solo blocks and five block assist, followed by
Annalee Ventling-Brown with four blocks and Burr with three.
Libero
Joslyn Richardson matched Zgonc with 14 digs on the match.
Rachel Wieber chipped in 11 digs.
SDSU had a 56 to 50 edge in kills and a .207 to .135 advantage in hitting percentage over NDSU. The Jackrabbits also out-blocked the Bison, 12 to 11. Both teams had seven ace serves.
Baily Randall paced the Bison with 13 kills and three aces.
NOTES
- South Dakota State is 8-4 against the Bison in the Dan Georgalas era (since the 2020-21 season). NDSU leads the all-time series 79-24.
- The Jackrabbits have secured a share of the Summit League regular season title and need just one more win over the final three matches to win the title outright.
