MILWAUKEE – Two Panthers scored over 20 points as Milwaukee defeated South Dakota State, 88-87, in a non-conference contest inside Fiserv Forum on Friday.Â

Milwaukee jumped ahead 15-4 in the opening five minutes of the matchup. South Dakota State worked into the deficit and took its first lead of the meeting when the Jacks went up, 24-23, at the 8:44 mark.Â

SDSU was ahead 36-29 before a five-point stretch for the Panthers. The Jackrabbits were in th lead until a Josh Dixon jumper put the Panthers ahead 39-38 as the first-half clocked went to zero.Â

The Jackrabbits held a 58-55 advantage, but a 9-0 scoring run for Milwaukee put the Panthers on top 64-58 with 9:03 to play. SDSU responded with a nine-point scoring stretch of its own to make it 67-64 as the clocked dipped  to 7:25.Â

The two sides traded baskets before Milwaukee's Amar Augillard made two consecutive 3-pointers to go ahead 72-69. The Panthers never trailed again as they took the lead for the final five minutes of action.Â

South Dakota State had the score within a possession for the remaining time on the clock until a pair of Milwaukee free throws gave them a four-point advantage with 15 seconds left. A
Jaden Jackson 3-pointer right before the final buzzer made it an 88-87 final score.Â

The Jackrabbits finished the matchup by outshooting the Panthers 50-46%. They also made 13 3-pointers to Milwaukee's 11, however the Panthers had an edge at the free throw line. Milwaukee was 13 of 15 (86.7%) at the charity stripe while SDSU made 8 of its 15 attempts.

South Dakota State fell to 7-7 in the defeat. Milwaukee improved to 5-6.

- Milwaukee was paced by Josh Dixon and Augillard as the pair scored 24 and 23 points, respectively. Faizon Field and Danilo Jovanovich each had a game-high eight rebounds.
- The Panthers outrebounded the Jacks by a 43-31 margin.Â
- Jackson led SDSU in scoring by matching his career high of 23 points. He was followed by Kalen Garry and Damon Wilkinson who scored 18 points apiece. Wilkinson scored all 18 of his points in the second half with his output a career high. Garry had a career-high eight assists and had a team-high six rebounds.
- The SDSU trio combined to 24-for-41 from the field shooting (58.6%). The rest of the team was 9 of 25. Jaden Rogers scored a career-high 10 points in 23 minutes off the bench.
