ATHLETES TO WATCH
Cody Larson is back in action this weekend in the mile and 5000-meter race. Larson saw his season debut last weekend at the ISU Classic, where he won the 3000-meter with a new personal record of 8:05.54. Larson's new personal record is currently the fastest in the league.
Brielle Dixon will run again this weekend in the 60-hurdles and the 60-meter. Last time out, Dixon broke her program record in the 60-hurdles with a time of 8.28 to win the event at the ISU Classic. Her time of 8.28 is currently the fastest in the league. Last year, Dixon placed second in the 60-hurdles with her program record at the Indoor Summit League Championships. Later in the outdoor season, Dixon earned a spot at the NCAA West First Round in the 100-meter hurdles, where she finished 36th.
LAST TIME OUT
The Jackrabbits split the squad in two last weekend as half of the team attended the ISU Classic, and the other half stayed close to home at the Mount Marty Last Chance meet. At the ISU Classic, SDSU dominated the men's 60-meter dash as three Jackrabbits placed in the top five.
Jared Wipf led the way with a time of 6.76 to take gold.
Evan Henderson placed runner-up with a time of 6.84.
Carter Toews rounded out the SDSU crew as he crossed the line at 6.88 to take fourth in the 60-meter finals.
The Jackrabbit sprinter squad continued to impress in the men's 400-meter.
Thailan Hallman clutched first with a time of 48.78, followed by Henderson in second at 48.88.
Colton Manock found a top-five finish with a time of 49.21, while
Kudra Nzibariza cruised across the line at 49.71 to take sixth.
The distance team had an excellent outing as well.
Courtney Stadter clutched bronze with a time of 9:43.06 to become the ninth-fastest 3000-meter performer in program history.
Grace Waage had another stunning performance as her mile time was 0.17 seconds away from breaking the program record. Waage crossed the line at 4:46.32 to take fourth in the event and become the second-fastest mile performer in program history.
At the Mount Marty meet,
Grayson Ring and
Brooks Holen competed in the high jump for the Jackrabbits. Both Ring and Holen lept over 6-04.00 (1.93m) to finish first and second, respectively.
For the women,
Madison Kizer took gold in the high jump with a mark of 5-07.00 (1.70m), followed closely by
Taylor Jochum in second with a leap of 5-05.00 (1.65m).
Over in the distance events,
Ty Brouwer and Tyler O'Neil placed first and second, respectively. Brouwer finished at 4:28.41, while O'Neil clocked a time of 4:28.61.
The hurdlers had a solid outing as well as
Ben Morningstar took silver with a time of 8.35 in the 60-hurdlers. On the women's side,
Silja Gunderson crossed the line at 9.44 to finish runner-up.
RANKINGS
USTFCCCA released its conference and regional rankings on Tuesday. The Jackrabbit men moved up to second in the Summit League but fell to 17th in the Midwest region. The women held steady in their conference ranking of fourth and improved to 21st in the region.
