South Dakota State prepares for a Saturday night showdown in Fargo as the Jackrabbits take on North Dakota State at 7 p.m. on the turf of Dacotah Field.
The two teams jockey for position in their pod of The Summit League standings. SDSU currently sits atop Pod A with a 1-0-1 record (4 points). South Dakota State opened its conference slate last week with a scoreless draw at South Dakota and a 2-1 victory at home versus North Dakota. NDSU narrowly trails the Jacks with a 1-1-0 mark (3 points). The Bison fell 4-0 at North Dakota last Thursday, but bounced back with a 2-1 win at home versus South Dakota. The match is the lone game for each squad this week as NDSU continues a four-match home stand.
South Dakota State rallied back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat the Fighting Hawks at Fishback Soccer Park this past Sunday. It was the first win for the Jacks this season when trailing at the half or after allowing an opponent to score first.
MaKynlie Cade and
Mia Bosch scored goals for SDSU, while
Lauren Eckerle and
Hannah Langstaff each played 90 minutes for the Yellow and Blue.
Bosch leads the Jackrabbits with 12 points on the season. Her team-high six assists are second most in the league, while her 18 assists are tied for fourth most in SDSU's career ranks.
Jenna Maloy joins her in double digits scoring with 10 points behind an SDSU-high five goals. Bosch leads SDSU in shots (18) followed by Maloy (15) and
Emma Brezenski (15).
South Dakota State is 6-2-2 overall this season while NDSU is 3-4-4. The Bison are led in scoring by Morgan Russmann's 12 points. She is The Summit League leader in shots (48) and is sixth in the nation in shots on goal per game (2.36). Defenders Amaya Garrett (987) and Maddie Miller (975) pace the Bison in minutes played, while goalkeeper Payton Mulberry has a 1.30 goals against average and .729 save percentage.
SDSU and NDSU compete in Fargo for the first time in two years. The 2024 meeting saw the Bison claim a 1-0 win as a part of its conference regular season championship. Prior to the defeat, the Jackrabbits had a six-match win streak over the Bison. SDSU earned a 2-0 victory against NDSU in Brookings last season.
