South Dakota State travels for its final road trip as the Jackrabbits close out their regular season with two away games. The Jacks face Kansas City in the Swinney Center first at 7 p.m. on Thursday, followed by their finale on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Vermillion against South Dakota.Â
SDSU earned a victory its last time out against North Dakota. The Jackrabbits led for less than four minutes, but scored the final eight points of the contest in the 91-83 win over the Fighting Hawks. SDSU was led by five double-digit scorers and was paced by 23 points from
Joe Sayler. The Jacks had a 40-25 edge in rebounds and were strong at the charity stripe going 21-for-25.
The win was a first in multiple circumstances for the Jackrabbits this season. UND shot 51.7% in the contest, marking it the first occurrence SDSU earned a win despite a foe going over 50% shooting. It also was the first time SDSU gave up more than 80 points this year and won a matchup.Â
SDSU is 13-16 overall and 6-8 in Summit League play. The Jackrabbits are currently tied for sixth in the conference standings heading into their final two games. SDSU is tied with South Dakota in the league standings, while Kansas City is 1-13.
The Roos enter Thursday's meeting at 4-24 overall. Kansas City hosts SDSU and Oral Roberts (Saturday) to close out their regular season. The last time the Jackrabbits and Roos met, SDSU came away with a 90-62 victory. In the Jan. 17 meeting in First Bank & Trust Arena, SDSU led 58-54 with just under eight minutes remaining. The Jacks eventually closed the game out by outscoring the Roos by a 32-8 margin.
SDSU has won four of the last five meetings in Kansas City. The Jackrabbits' last two victories in the Swinney Center have come by one-point margins. The Jacks won 65-64 last season and a 67-66 score in 2023.
The Jacks will take on the Yotes for the second time this season Saturday. The Jacks fell 68-67 in the first matchup on Feb. 7. SDSU, which saw its 10-game win streak over USD ended, currently has a four-game win streak in Vermillion. South Dakota faces Omaha in the Sanford Coyote Sports Center on Wednesday evening. The Yotes are currently 14-15 overall and 6-8 in league play.
