BROOKINGS, S.D. — South Dakota State sends several athletes to Des Moines, Iowa, for the Jim Duncan Invitational, while a few distance runners head to Wisconsin for the UW-Platteville Invite, both scheduled for Friday evening.

"The weather has been a challenge on our schedule, and I believe our team is really looking forward to the competitions on tap this week. The coaches and student-athletes have done well in focusing on their training in preparation for a competition whenever it becomes available."

JIM DUNCAN INVITATIONAL
Around 50 Jackrabbits will compete at the Jim Duncan Invitational, hosted by Drake University at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at Drake Stadium. Jenna Johnson and Rylan McDonnell will be the athletes to watch in Des Moines.

Johnson will compete in the 400-meter hurdles at 3:50 p.m. and the 4X400-meter relay at 5:10 p.m. Last time out, Johnson competed at the Steinborn/Beacom Twilight, where she won the 400-hurdles event with a personal record of 1:01.38. The senior also assisted her 4x400-meter team to a first-place finish with a combined time of 3:46.41. Additionally, Johnson assisted her team in setting the Jackrabbit women's 4X400-meter program record at last year's Summit League Outdoor Championship meet. The relay team finished third with a time of 3:40.81.

McDonnell is slated to compete in the long jump competition, scheduled to begin after the women's competition wraps up. Last time out, McDonnell won the long jump with a mark of 22-10 (6.96m) at the Steinborn/Beacom Twilight. Last year, the junior finished in the top-five at the Summit League Championship meet, where he posted a mark of 24-04.25 (7.42m) to become the fourth-best performer in program history.

UW-PLATTEVILLE INVITE
Seven distance athletes will make their way to Wisconsin to compete in the 5000-meter race at the UW-Platteville Invite. Luke Johnson and Jared Lutmer will represent the men, while Kadense Dooley, Annika Larson, Greta Peters, Annie Robinson and Nicole Swanson will compete on the women's side. Larson, Robinson and Peters will compete first in heat five of the women's race, scheduled for 7:45 p.m., followed by Johnson and Lutmer in the men's eighth heat, scheduled for 8:05 p.m. Swanson and Dooley will round out the night in heat six at 8:25 p.m.
