LOGAN, Utah — Utah State controlled the possession throughout the match Sunday against South Dakota State and claimed a 3-0 victory at Chuck and Gloria Bell Soccer Field.

Both teams came off solid victories on Thursday. The Jackrabbits previously earned a 3-2 victory at Weber State, while the Aggies had defeated No. 13 BYU in Logan by a 4-0 score.

The two sides had the same shot total through the opening 25 minutes in Sunday's meeting, despite the host Aggies holding the ball for a majority of the action. Utah State capitalized in the 33rd minute. Kaeda Wilson struck a shot from long range and it found the back of the net, making it just inside the top corner of the post to put the Aggies ahead.

That score held as the two sides went into the halftime break.

South Dakota State had its best opportunity of the match in the 47th minute. After an initial corner kick, MaKynlie Cade had a deflection come to her in the box. Her shot attempt was saved inside the goal by a Utah State defender.

Utah State put the game out of reach over the course of the final 45 minutes. The Aggies recorded a goal in the 51st minute, as well as a goal via a penalty kick, in the 80th minute.

The Aggies improved to 6-2-1 on the season with the win. South Dakota State dropped to 5-2-1 overall.

NOTES

Utah State outshot SDSU by a 21-5 margin. The Aggies also had a 14-2 edge in shots on goal.
SDSU goalkeeper Mallorie Benhart had a busy day in front of the net. The Jackrabbit senior made 10 saves which is the most in a single match during her tenure in Yellow and Blue. It's the most saves in a match by an SDSU keeper since 2019.
Joining Cade with a shot on goal for South Dakota State was Jenna Maloy. She recorded hers in the 13th minute.
SDSU defenders Abbi Gibbs and Gentry Williams each played 90 minutes. Ellie Gusman led the Jackrabbits' midfielders playing 81 minutes, while Katelyn Beulke competed a reserve-high 50 minutes.

South Dakota State has an 11-day break between games. The Jackrabbits begin Summit League play their next time out. SDSU travels to Vermillion to take on South Dakota on Thursday, Sept. 24.
