South Dakota State is back at Fishback Soccer Park for the first time in three weeks on Sunday when the Jackrabbits host their annual GOALd game versus North Dakota. The Jacks and Fighting Hawks are slated for a 1 p.m. first kick in Brookings.
SDSU returns to its home pitch following a three-match stretch on the road. Following a split of non-conference matches in Utah, the Jackrabbits opened Summit League play on Thursday at South Dakota. The Interstate Series meeting, presented by First Interstate Bank, ended in a scoreless draw. The Jacks finished the game with a 17-14 advantage in shots, including a 6-3 edge in shots on goal, but couldn't find the back of the net. Goalkeeper Mallorie Benhart made three saves in the shutout effort.
South Dakota State's Sunday match versus North Dakota benefits Alex's Lemonade Stand. The GOALd game is in conjunction with the organization in supporting a cure for childhood cancer. The team is raising funds online for the Foundation. Northwestern Mutual is providing free tickets to all fans that attend the match. An online donation to the team's fundraiser is encouraged. The team's annual t-shirts for the GOALd game will be available on site to purchase for $15 (cash only).
SDSU and North Dakota meet a season after an eventul match between the two at Fishback Soccer Park. On Oct. 2 of the 2025 season, the Jackrabbits and Fighting Hawks completed a 2-2 draw. That result ended an eight-match winning streak for SDSU over North Dakota. SDSU holds a 14-game unbeaten streak against UND and is 15-3-2 all-time versus the Fighting Hawks.
North Dakota is coming off a 4-0 shutout over North Dakota State on Thursday. UND won its conference opener for the first time since 2019. The Fighting Hawks' win extended their streak to two straight over the Bison, the first for their program since 2003. The four-goal margin marked the largest victory for UND ever over NDSU.
The win for the Fighting Hawks featured a pair of braces by Cora Ellermann and Charlie Basinet. The two each have four goals this year. Thale Ruether made seven saves in the win.
Sunday's match will also feature a halftime recognition for two South Dakota State soccer alums that will be inducted into the 2026 class of the Jackrabbit Sports Hall of Fame class. Kellyn (Farrell) Green and Kerstyn (Farrell) Mintken will each be inducted and recognized this weekend. The twin sisters were at the forefront of helping build the Jackrabbit women's soccer program into a consistent contender within The Summit League from 2005-08.
