BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State cross country begins the 2026 season in Sioux Falls at the Augustana Twilight on Friday night, with the men's race slated for 9:15 p.m. and the women's race to follow at 9:45.

PRESEASON OUTLOOK
The Jackrabbit men were picked to repeat as league champions for the 11th straight season. South Dakota State returns four runners that finished in the top 17 of the 2025 Summit League Championships.
The South Dakota State women finished in second place at last year's conference championship meet. Individual runner-up Meghan Ford and first team all-conference member Eleni Lovgren return to the squad.
ATHLETES TO WATCH
Cashton Johnson and Will Lohr are runners to keep an eye on for SDSU. Johnson earned first team all-Summit League honors last season and placed fourth at the conference championship while Lohr finished in 11th place at the conference meet, receiving second team all-league honors. Last season, Lohr finished in the top five individually at the Augustana Twilight, with a four-mile PR of 18:46.0.
Eleni Lovgren is a runner to watch for the Jackrabbits. Lovgren finished runner-up at the Augustana Twilight last season. Ashley Overgaauw is set to compete in her first meet as a Jackrabbit. A Division II All-American at Augustana in 2024, Overgaauw finished seventh at the 2025 Augustana Twilight as a member of the Minnesota State – Mankato program.
