Parker Edens was officially named the head men’s golf coach at South Dakota State on July 6, 2022. He enters his second season at SDSU in 2023-24.
In his first season with the Jacks, Edens guided the squad to two top-five team finishes. Additionally, seven individuals accounted for at least one top-10 placing on the year. Sophomore Ty Kretz posted a pair of finishes inside the top five, including medalist honors at the Duel at the Bluffs. Kretz was named to the All-Summit League Second Team.
SDSU set a number of program records at the Duel at the Bluffs in April 2023. The Jackrabbits posted a single-round 269 (-19) in round two and a 546 (-30) final 36-hole tally, both new program bests. SDSU's A Team was led by Kretz, who matched the school record for a single round (65, -7) on his first lap and finished with a 131 (-13) 36-hole scorecard, also a new record. Luke Honner recorded a 133 (-11) score for the A Team, which ranks second all-time behind Kretz's 131.
Edens came to the Jackrabbits from Colorado State, where he served as an assistant for three seasons.
"I am pleased to add Parker and his family to our program and community," said Sell. "He is an outstanding coach with a passion for developing his student-athletes on and off the course. He shares our vision of winning league titles and advancing in the NCAA Championships."
Edens helped the Rams to a runner-up finish at the Mountain West conference championship and an NCAA Regional appearance in 2022. CSU's Connor Jones won the league's individual title and was one of two Rams named to the all-conference team. CSU won two events in 2021-22 - the Ram Masters Invitational and the Paintbrush Invitational.
"It has been a dream of mine to be a head coach," said Edens. "This opportunity at SDSU is very exciting for my family and me. I want to thank Justin Sell for giving me this opportunity. I'm so grateful for Colorado State and all our players who helped us achieve such great things. I cannot wait to get started and help lead the Jackrabbits to great heights."
In 2020-21, Edens helped CSU senior AJ Ott to a third-place finish at the NCAA Regional and qualification for the NCAA Men's Golf Championship in Scottsdale, Arizona. In Edens' time on staff the Rams produced six all-conference players, three GCAA all-region honorees and two GCAA All-America selections. Eight players earned GCAA All-America Scholar-Athlete accolades.
Prior to his time at Colorado State Edens was an assistant coach for the women's golf team at the University of Tulsa from July 2018 until November 2019.
Before entering the coaching ranks, Edens played professionally for four years and spent 2017 as a member of the Korn Ferry Tour. He collected six wins as a professional.
Edens is a graduate of Colorado State and captained the golf team during the 2013-14 season. He was named the Rams' MVP in 2013 and 2014. Edens, a Greeley, Colorado native, was also member of the South Dakota State golf team from 2009-2011 before returning to his home state for the remainder of his collegiate career.
