ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Sophomore Josh Mueller posted a pair of top-two finishes to lead the South Dakota State University men's swimming team to a 103-80 victory over Pfeiffer (N.C.) in dual action Thursday.
Mueller, a Sioux Falls native, won the 400-meter freestyle in 4 minutes, 56.48 seconds, after finishing behind teammate Chris Holzwarth in the 200-meter freestyle. Holzwarth won the race in 2:12.74, followed by Mueller in 2:19.66.
In all, six different Jackrabbit swimmers won individual titles in the dual, which was part of the Jackrabbits' winter training trip. Also victorious for SDSU were: Kyle Milleman in the 800-meter freestyle, 11:01.92; Colby Lee in the 100 butterfly, 1:09.29; Justin Manning in the 100 freestyle, 59.94 seconds, and Chad Thomsen in the 100 breaststroke, 1:12.84.
SDSU, 2-1 in duals this season, closed out the meet with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay, as the team of Matt Josephson, Mark Garrigues, Manning and Lee posted a time of 1:54.54. Josephson, a Juneau, Alaska, native who just joined the team, also turned in a runner-up performance in the 100 backstroke, 1:08.28.
The Jackrabbits return to competition Jan. 19-20 at the IUPUI Quadrangular in Indianapolis, Ind.
