ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. ? Six different South Dakota State University swimmers claimed event titles as the Jackrabbit men claimed a 77-34 victory over Morningside (Iowa) during the team's annual Winter Training Trip on Tuesday.
Matt Josephson posted the first Jackrabbit victory, winning the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1 minute, 57.47 seconds. Freshman
John Bisson followed by winning the 50 freestyle in 23.85 seconds.
Another freshman,
Jason Garder added a victory in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.53 seconds, edging teammate
Josh Mueller by .04 seconds.
Other winners for SDSU included:
Chris Holzwarth, 100 backstroke, 57.22 seconds;
Ryan Willett, 500 freestyle, 5:21.89, and
Blake Gipson, 100 breaststroke, 1:06.29.
The Jackrabbits also swept the mixed relays. Gipson and
Hadleigh Tyler teamed with Alexandra Hoffman and Mallory Onisk for a winning time of 1:52.92 in the 200 medley relay. Garder and Mueller closed out the meet by joining forces with Hannah Ferree and Christina Gerometta for a victory in the 200 freestyle relay, 1:48.68.
SDSU, 2-2 in duals, resumes competition Jan. 18-19 at a quadrangular hosted by St. Louis University (Mo.).
