The South Dakota State women's soccer team ended a tough weekend, dropping their second-straight game, this time at the hands of the Creighton Bluejays 2-0 at Fishback Soccer Park Sunday afternoon in the Jacks home opener. SDSU falls to 5-3-2 all-time in home openers.
"I felt like we were much better today than we were on Friday against Minnesota," said head coach Lang Wedemeyer. “We shot ourselves in the foot by giving away two bad goals and a team like Creighton is going to finish those off. We certainly had our chances but didn't have that determination around the box.”
The Bluejays got on the board late in the second half when Jacks goalkeeper Dani Pappas misplayed a ball 35 yards out as Sara Kendall picked up the ball and dribbled in for an empty net goal, making the score 1-0.
Pappas later had a shot by Emily Orbell deflect off her hands and trickle into the back of the net to end the scoring at 2-0.
Creighton outshot the Jacks 14-12 but trailed in the shots on-goal 7-6.
Alicia Montgomery tallied her second shutout of the year with seven saves while Pappas took her first loss of the year, allowing two goals while turning away four Creighton shots.
Danni Healy and Kayla Braffet led SDSU with three shots apiece.
The Jacks travel to the state of Iowa to take on Iowa State on Friday at 7 p.m. and Iowa on Sunday with kickoff slated for 1 p.m.
