The South Dakota State women's soccer team heads west this week to face Summit League foe Southern Utah Thurday before heading to UMKC Saturday. The Jacks recorded a 1-1 record last week and now stand at 2-1-1 in the conference and 7-4-1 overall.
“This is the hardest road trip in the conference traveling to Southern Utah and UMKC in a shortened week. Both are tough teams to play, especially on their home fields,” said head coach Lang Wedemeyer. “We are excited for the challenge of these two matches and are looking toward putting two consistent games back to back.”
Kayla Braffet and Danni Healy lead the team in points with 10 each, both on four goals and two assists. Braffet and Healy are tied for seventh in the Summit League in points and tied for sixth in the league in goals.
Kayla Braffet leads with 39 shots and 15 on-goal, while Kaitlin Justice follows close behind with 37, including 11 on-goal. Braffet stands in second in the league with her 39 shots, while Justice is tied for third in the league.
Elisa Stamatakis, whose record stands at 7-1-3, sits in second place in the league with her goals-against average of 0.74. She is also second in the league with a save percentage of .812 and first in shutouts on the season with six.
This week's Competition
Southern Utah Thunderbirds – Southern Utah enters the matchup with the Jacks 4-6-1 overall and 1-2 in the Summit League. The Thunderbirds have yet to lose a match on their home field.
Riley Bassett leads the Thunderbirds with 12 points on six goals. She is tied for second in the league. Elyse Alexander follows with seven points on two goals and three assists. In conference play, McKenzie Hadley and Stacey Brinkman are the only two Thunderbirds to score a goal with one each against UMKC Oct. 9.
Charly Booth minded the net in all 11 Thunderbird matches this season. She allowed 18 goals and tallied 68 saves. Her record stands at 4-6-1 on the season and 1-2-0 in conference play.
The Jacks are 2-1-1 against the Thunderbirds all-time.
UMKC Kangaroos – UMKC enters the week with a 1-11-0 record and 0-3 in the Summit League.
Taylor Bare leads the Kangaroos with eight points on three goals and two assists. Ashley Gann follows with six points on two goals and two assists.
Jami Finnell tallied 91 saves in her 1,090 minutes in the net for the 'Roos. She allowed 27 goals in 12 games and her record stands at 1-11-0.
The Jacks are 1-0 against the 'Roos all-time.
Rabbits in the Record Books – Senior Kayla Braffet makes her way up the career assists all-time top-five list for SDSU. Braffet started the season in sixth place and currently sits in third with 12 career assists. Senior Kaitlin Justice is currently in fourth place all-time in game-winning goals with seven on her career.
Freshman Elisa Stamatakis is already making her mark on Jackrabbit soccer. Stamatakis stands in fifth place all-time with a save percentage of .812 and fourth place all-time with six total shutouts on her career.
Stamatakis tallied four-straight shutouts in her first five games as a Jackrabbit. The streak is a tie for second most consecutive shutouts in Jackrabbit history. Former goalkeeper Nicole Lograsso recorded four in 2007. Lograsso is also in first with eight consecutive shutouts recorded in 2008.
