BROOKINGS, S.D. — South Dakota State scored a first-half goal and Colorado College equalized in the second half as the two foes battled to a 1-1 tie on Thursday at Fishback Soccer Park.

SDSU held a slight edge in possession in the early going and the Jackrabbits' defense was solid in the opening 45 minutes. The Jacks allowed just one Tigers shot on goal during the first half. Colorado College was equally tough along its back line, but the one shot they allowed on goal found its way into the back of the net.

The time entered the 44th minute as a series of passes from MaKynlie Cade and Emma Brezenski found a sprinting Deizha Lyn Jacinto. The SDSU sophomore got past the Colorado College defense and had a 1-on-on opportunity against the Tigers' keeper. Jacinto easily booted a right-footed shot in for a goal, giving the Jackrabbits a 1-0 edge heading into halftime.

Colorado College came out in the second half aggressive on the attack. The Tigers produced six shots in the opening seven minutes out of the break. They'd eventually capitalize with a goal from Chloe Bunton right in front of the net to tie the score at 1-1 in the 69th minute.

SDSU had four shots come in both the first and second halves. All four of the Jackrabbits' shots in the second half came in the final four minutes of regulation, but none proved to be a threat to the final score line.

Senior goalkeeper Mallorie Benhart made three saves for SDSU to keep the 1-1 draw intact.

The tie for the Jackrabbits was their first of the season as their record was 4-1-1 to end the night. The Tigers ended the evening with a 2-2-2 record this season.

NOTES

SDSU is now 0-1-1 all-time against Colorado College.
The Tigers had a 14-8 edge in shots including a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal. They also held a 10-4 margin over the Jackrabbits in corner kicks.
Jacinto's goal was her third of the season. She jumped into a tie for the team lead this year with eight points. Both Cade and Brezenski registered their second assists of the season.
Defenders Sophia Emerson and Gentry Williams played the full 90 minutes. Mia Bosch led SDSU's remaining players on the pitch with 74 minutes while she also recorded two shots. Katelyn Beulke had a team-high three shots with one on goal.

South Dakota State closes out its home stand at Fishback Soccer Park on Sunday. The Jackrabbits square off against Idaho at 1 p.m. The match will feature the team's annual 'Hometown Heroes' promotion prior to first kick.
