CEDAR CITY, Utah - The South Dakota State women's soccer team nabbed a 4-3 conference win over Southern Utah Thursday in Cedar City, Utah.
The Jacks found an early lead when Danni Healy sent the ball 10 yards out from the net to Darci Miller who sailed it past Thunderbird goalkeeper Charly Booth into the left corner.
On a long touch in the 41st minute, Danielle Neuhalfen sent a pass to Cori Bonte who beat Booth on a charge to score her second goal of the season and up the Jacks 2-0.
Less than ten seconds later, Southern Utah's Riley Basset beat Elisa Stamatakis in the right corner on a penalty kick goal to make the score 2-1 at the end of the first half.
Twenty minutes into the second half, Southern Utah's Shelby Ostler tied the score on a breakaway.
The Jacks broke ahead once again when Kaitlin Justice fed Emily Quigley who beat the Thunderbird netminder on the left side.
In the 82nd minute of the game, Tory Schiltgen sent a cross to Danni Healy who scored on a header to up the Jacks 4-2.
In one last effort in the 89th minute, Ostler took a shot from 25 yards out and sailed it past Stamatakis on the left side. The unassisted goal ended the scoring in favor of the Jacks 4-3.
"We certainly like to make the game interesting! Southern did a good job coming back and really pushed us in the second half, but we did what we had to do to get the result," said head coach Lang Wedemeyer. "It was great to get four goals today and to have so many different people contribute was fantastic."
The Jacks outshot the Thunderbirds 16-13, including 12-8 on-goal. Kaitlin Justice led for the Jacks once again with three shots, including two on-goal.
Stamatakis earns another win and improves to 8-1-3 overall and 3-1-1 in the Summit League. She tallied five saves in her 90 minutes in the net.
The Jacks, now 8-2-4 overall and 3-1-1 in the conference travel to UMKC Saturday to face the Kangaroos. The action is slated to begin at 1 p.m. from Durwood Soccer Stadium.
