KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The South Dakota State women's soccer team defeated UMKC 3-0 Saturday in Kansas City, Mo. for a 2-0 weekend in Summit League play. The Jackrabbits improve to 9-2-4 overall and 4-1-1 in the Summit League.
After a scoreless first period, Steph Peterson beat UMKC goalkeeper Jami Finnell in the 46th minute of the game.
Ten minutes later, Danni Healy found the rebound off a missed kick from Darci Miller. Healy found a low goal to up the Jacks 2-0. The goal marks Healy's sixth on the season.
Then, in the 68th minute, Tory Schiltgen found her own rebound for an unassisted third goal of the game to end the scoring at 3-0.
"We started off a bit slow in the first half, but played very well in the second. We showed much more composure in the second and Steph Peterson's goal really gave us a lift,"said head coach Lang Wedemeyer. "It was a long, hard road trip, but the team handled it well and to get seven goals on the weekend was fantastic for us."
The Jacks outshot the Kangaroos 13-1 including 6-1 on-goal. Kayla Braffet took four shots for the Jacks, with two on-goal, while Schiltgen took three shots with one on-goal.
Elisa Stamatakis earned her seventh career shutout. She tallied one save in her 90 minutes in the net.
The Jacks travel north Oct. 23 to battle neighbors North Dakota State. The action is set to begin at noon from Ellig Sports Complex in Fargo, N.D.
