The South Dakota State women's soccer team looks to keep the momentum going after a 2-0 weekend in Reno, Nev., as they take on Wisconsin and UW-Green Bay on another road trip this week.
“After a long road trip, we head out again for what should be the toughest opponent we have faced this season in Wisconsin. This will be a great test of our maturity and mentality and we are excited for the challenge,” said head coach Lang Wedemeyer. “UW-Green Bay is another tough team that is hard to beat at home, so we will need great effort from our team to get two wins this weekend.”
The Jacks found their first win of the season in Nevada Sept. 4 after a tough 3-2 double-overtime battle. With just seconds to go in the double overtime, Chelsey Poole found Kayla Braffet who scored the game-winner for the Jackrabbits.
Against Montana Sept. 5, goalkeeper Elisa Stamatakis recorded her first career shutout and the second win of her career in the 3-0 victory. Danni Healy recorded her second goal of the season to put the Jacks up 1-0 early in the first half and later recorded an assist to Kaitlin Justice's goal to end the scoring at 3-0.
Danni Healy leads the Jacks in points scored with five on the season and goals scored with two. Kaitlin Justice leads in shots with 14, while Justice and Christa Nyblom lead in shots on-goal for the season with four each. In the net, Dani Pappas owns a .875 save percentage and a 0-1-1 record, while Elisa Stamatakis has a .873 save percentage and a 2-0 record.
The Jacks now own a 2-1-1 record on the season.
HEALY EARNS WEEKLY LEAGUE HONOR – Senior Danni Healy captures her first career Summit League Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Jackrabbits to a pair of wins over Nevada and Montana.
The Edina, Minn. native recorded the game-winner in the 3-0 shutout over Montana and tallied an assist on Kaitlin Justice's goal in the second period. Healy gave the Jacks a 2-0 lead in the 3-2 double overtime victory over Nevada. She recorded five points on two goals and an assist for the week.
THIS WEEK'S COMPETITION Wisconsin Badgers – Wisconsin is 0-3-1 on the season entering the weekend. Last week the Badgers dropped a 2-0 game to Portland and battled Washington to a double-overtime 1-all draw.
Kodee Williams scored the only goal of the week for the Badgers. Goalkeeper Michelle Dalton played 110 minutes in the net against Washington and tallied four saves. Dalton has allowed three goals this season. Goalkeeper Lauren Gunderson allowed two goals against Portland last week in her season debut.
The Jacks face the Big 10 Conference member for the first time in program history Friday at 7 p.m. at McClimon Complex in Madison, Wis. UW-Green Bay Phoenix – Green Bay owns a 1-1-2 record entering the weekend and is 0-0-2 in home matches. A member of the Horizon League, the Phoenix found a double-overtime scoreless tie with Eastern Illinois in Green Bay, Wis. last week.
Laura Hamer and Anna Kouba scored the two lone goals of the season, while goalkeeper Maddie Drusch has tallied three shutouts on the season with a .963 save percentage.
The Jacks are 1-2 all-time against the Phoenix and are set to travel to Green Bay, Wis. Sept. 12 for a 1 p.m. game.
