BROOKINGS, S.D. – Ben Bolinske broke the 50-meter freestyle pool record Saturday afternoon as South Dakota State picked up a sweep of St. Cloud State. The Jackrabbit men won 181-118, while the women bested the Huskies, 189-111 on Senior Day.
Bolinske's 20.81 performance bested the old mark of 20.92, which stood for 11 years. The junior also tied for first in the 100 free with Daniel Jacobson with a time of 47.46 and was on both winning relay squads. The Jacks' 200 medley squad posted a time of 1:35.00, while the 400 free relay team touched in 3:07.17.
Senior Alex McLain swept the backstrokes as he won the 100 in 52.33 and 200 in 1:55.47. Fellow senior Blake Yeager added a win in the 200 free in 1:43.95.
In the 100 butterfly, Garth Wadsworth touched in 51.68, which was good for first. SDSU transfer Taylor Donovan won the 200 IM in 1:58.06.
On the boards, senior Connor Florand had a solid showing in his final meet at HPER Center Pool as he won the 3-meter with a score of 328.42 and took second on the 1-meter board with a mark of 290.02.
On the women's side, SDSU once again swept the relays, as the 200 medley squad touched in 1:47.66, while the 400 free relay won with a time of 3:41.54.
In the 1000 free, the Jacks swept top honors as Gretchen Frick, Emily Rosenthal and Kendra Hinton all beat their SCSU opponents.
Samantha Prasher, who was also on the winning 200 medley relay squad, added another in the 100 back with a time of 59.58.
Senior Emily Campbell had another strong showing in the breaststrokes, as the Aberdeen native won the 100 in 1:06.29 and the 200 in 2:22.88. Senior Trina young also got a win in her final outing at home as she won the 200 fly in 2:14.07.
In the 50 free, junior Abby Zenner touched first in 24.50, while senior Nicole Grimit won the 100 back in 54.42. Cassie Hendricks also won the 200 back in 2:11.32.
On the boards, Olivia Olesiak won the 1-meter with a score of 251.63, while Emily Moore took second on the 3-meter board with a mark of 201.08.
SDSU returns to the pool January 23 at USD. Swimming will start at 5 p.m.
