BARTONVILLE, Texas – The South Dakota State equestrian team dropped its first of two weekend meets on Friday, falling 13-5 to the Mustangs at a muddy Sleepy P Ranch outside of Dallas, Texas.
The loss drops the Jackrabbits to 1-3 on the season, while the win gives SMU the same 1-3 mark on the season.
"We had several good rides today, but that wasn't enough for a win,” head coach Ellie Wilkins said. “We want to thank SMU for hosting a great show and being gracious competitors. Despite a hard loss we're ready to compete at TCU tomorrow."
The hosts scored eight of the 10 hunt seat points, with SDSU freshman Jacey Chorlton being the long bright spot, as she scored points in her first two collegiate rides, scoring an 81 on the flat and 73 over fences.
The Jacks took two points in horsemanship, with juniors Lexus Hoffman and Kelsey Swainston getting wins. Hoffman with a 74.5 and Swainston with a 72.5, as Hoffman improves improves to 2-1 on the season and Swainston to 2-0-1.
Reining saw both Mariah Wright and Makayla Reed tie with their opponents, while Raivenne Scott improved to 3-1 with a core of 70.5 for SDSU's long reining point.
The Jacks look to get back on track on Saturday, when the ride against TCU in Fort Worth, Texas.
