After spending the last two months practicing, the South Dakota State men's golf team returns to competition when it plays in the 2017 Arizona Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday in Tucson, Ariz.
The 54-hole event takes place at the Sewailo Golf Club, a par-71, 7,283-yard layout with 36 holes starting Monday with a 10 a.m. shotgun start and 18 holes Tuesday with a 10:30 shotgun start.
Competing along side the Jackrabbits in the tournament are: No. 8 Texas A&M, No. 20 Oregon, No. 42 UCLA, No. 44 BYU, No. 46 Iowa State, No. 50 Washington, No. 52 New Mexico State, No. 83 Arizona, No. 89 California, Denver, Gonzaga, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico, Pepperdine, Southern Illinois, UTEP and Washington State.
The Jackrabbits finished 14
th last season in the Arizona Intercollegiate, shooting a three-round 911 (312-302-297). Senior
Grant Smith tied for 17
th after firing a five-over par 218 (77-70-71) with three birdies in the final round.
SDSU, which won the 2016 Summit League Championship and advanced to the NCAA Regional, was picked second behind Denver in the league's preseason poll.
Sophomore
Jaxon Lynn leads the Jackrabbits and is 11th in The Summit League with a 74.50 stroke average in 12 rounds last fall. He had a top-five and top-10 finish along with five rounds below par.
Smith is second on the team with a 74.53 average and ranks 12th in The Summit League after 15 rounds. He has four rounds below par.
Freshman
Alejandro Restrepo and sophomore
Alejandro Perazzo, fresh off the Latin American Amateur Championship last week, are shooting 74.60 and 75.53, respectively, on the season with Restrepo turning in a top-10 finish. He ranks 13
th in The Summit League in scoring average.
The Jacks finished the fall season with a 296.93 scoring average and three top-10 finishes, including fourth at The Jackrabbit Sept. 25-27.
