The South Dakota State men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the season hosting Midland and Iowa Central on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Presence
- The freshmen won 11 events total
- Rori Conners claimed first in the 1650 free with 17:47.23
- Emily Pincus won the 200 free (1:57.35) and the 500 free (5:17.32)
- Tiffany Nguyen touched first in the 100 and 200 back with times of 1:01.97 and 2:15.69, respectively
- Cody Watkins captured first in the 100 and 200 fly, while Austin Pham won the 500 free and 400 IM
- Jeffry Kern was the final freshman to win an event in the 200 back with a 1:57.02
Diving Breaks Records
- Junior Joey Weber broke the school and pool record in the 1-meter dive with a score of 352.50
- Mitchel Raihle broke the school record in the 3-meter with a 353.85
- Weber, Raihle and Emily Moore all qualified for zones
Seniors Shine
- Dan Jacobson returned to the pool to win the 100 back (53.33) and the 100 free (47.61)
- Olivia Bartel touched first in the 100 breast (1:00.14) and 200 breast (2:33.04)
- Kristin Erf claimed first in the 50 free with a time of 24.83 and the 100 fly with 1:00.86

" It was a very good start to the season. We had some very solid swims and really showed our versatility of this team. We swam hard from start to finish. On the diving side, we had a great day with two new school record holders and three NCAA zone qualifiers. I can't wait to see what the rest of the season holds."
