The Jacks are the three-time defending Summit League tournament champions, and last year earned the program's first-ever outright Summit regular season title, going 13-1 in league play. SDSU carries the nation's longest active home-winning streak (22) after picking up a 79-74 season-opening victory Tuesday evening against Grand Canyon and a 78-61 win Thursday over Alabama State. The Jackrabbits are a combined 28-2 at Frost Arena under third-year head coach
T.J. Otzelberger.
Bemidji State comes off a 12-16 overall record during the 2017-18 season and return two starters. Six letterwinners in total return for the 2018-19 season while nine newcomers join the program. The?Beavers played two exhibitions earlier this month, losing 86-83 to Valley City State and 97-51 to Northern Iowa.

About South Dakota State
Off to a 2-0 start on the season, South Dakota State faces another quick turnaround Saturday with its third game in five days.
The Jackrabbits have four players averaging double figures in the first week of the season, led by
Mike Daum's 21.5 points per game.
David Jenkins (18.5 points per game) dropped 31 in the season opener to get off to a fast start, while
Skyler Flatten (13.0 ppg) and
Matt Dentlinger (10.5 ppg) are in double figures as well.
Daum also paces the Jacks in rebounds (13.0) and assists (4.0), just ahead of
Tevin King's 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists on average. Tevin, who is just shy of a double-figure scoring average (9.0 ppg), was dominant on the glass in game one, grabbing a career-best 12 rebounds from the point guard spot to help SDSU finish plus-13 on the glass against GCU -- a stat that proved vital towards SDSU's success a year ago, as the Jackrabbits were 20-2 when winning the rebounding battle in 2017-18.
Daum, a two-time Summit League Player of the Year and Associated Press All-American, now has 2,275 career points, he is closing in on Nate Wolters' all-time SDSU scoring record of 2,363 and is on pace to reach the mark by late-November.
Four newcomers have made their debut and appeared in two games already, as Dentlinger started and
Alex Arians,
Owen King and
Alou Dillon came off the bench for valuable minutes.
Dentlinger has posted back-to-back seven rebound games against the Lopes and Hornets, and is shooting 53.3 percent from the field.
Arians, a First Team WBCA Division II pick as a senior in Madison, Wisconsin, recorded his first collegiate points against Alabama State, finishing with six tallies and five rebounds.
Dillon has shown promise on the defensive end with a block in both games while playing limited minutes (8.5 per game) ,and has six points and five rebounds this year.
Owen King, a four-time all-conference performer at Caledonia Area High School, Associated Press All-Second Team and final-five pick for Minnesota Mr. Basketball in 2018, has four assists on the season in 18 minutes of action and picked up three against Alabama State Thursday.
As a team, South Dakota State is averaging 78.5 points per contest and allowing 67.5. The Jackrabbits are shooting 46.8 percent from the field with a 14-for-39 mark beyond the arc.
About Bemidji State
Head Coach Mike Boschee enters his seventh season with the program after totaling a 76-91 record with the Beavers and a 191-206 career record in 15 seasons as a head coach. Assistant coaches Mike Iseman and Tim Wagner begin their first seasons in their respective positions in 2018-19 with the Beavers.
Logan Bader was named BSU's Player to Watch in the 2018-19 NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll. He leads all BSU returners in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals and 3-point percentage. Bader averaged 11.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per game while shooting 50.2 percent from the field and 50.4 percent from 3-point range.
Bemidji State ranked 13th in scoring offense last season in the NSIC with 72.9 points per game. BSU's defense saw a boost during the 2017-18 season while ranking second in the conference allowing 44.0 percent shooting from the field and sixth allowing 36.1 percent shooting from long range.
A South Dakota State Win Would ...
Give SDSU its third win of the season and increase the nation's longest-active home winning streak to 23 games ... move the Jackrabbits to 6-0 all-time against Bemidji State ... push Otzelberger to 49-24 at South Dakota State ... give the Jacks a 1,514-1,031-1 program mark.
A South Dakota State Loss Would ...
End South Dakota State's nation-best 22-game active home winning streak and put the team at 2-1 on the year ... make Otzelberger 48-25 at South Dakota State ... drop SDSU to 1,513-1,032-1 all-time.
Preseason All-Conference Team; Jacks Picked First

South Dakota State's
Mike Daum is within reach of rarefied air as he enters his senior campaign looking to become just the ninth men's basketball player all-time to reach 3,000 points. Daum currently sits tied for 178th on the NCAA's all-time scoring chart (after Thursday, Nov. 8's contest) and will look to climb the ranks throughout the year. He is currently first among active scorers, trailing only Campbell's Chris Clemons (2,276 points). A look at Daum's latest scoring chart listing can be found on page five of the game notes.
Let It Rain

Tacoma Talent
Tacoma, Washington native
David Jenkins made a statement early in 2018-19 to erase any doubt of a sophomore slump, matching his career-high in points (31) against Grand Canyon while scoring the final 10 Jackrabbit points to seal the home-opening victory. He now has 602 points in 37 career games.
Jenkins enters his second season of collegiate play as a hot commodity in the basketball realm, racking up an SDSU freshman record 565 points a year while finishing in the top 10 of freshman scorers nationwide. Additionally, Jenkins finished with 84 3-pointers (one shy of previous record, prior to
Mike Daum breaking it with 96 last year) and hit at least two treys in 24 contests.
On Dec. 22, 2017 at Colorado, Jenkins set the school's freshman single-game scoring record with 31 and matched it Feb. 8, 2018 at Denver.
Jenkins has reached double figures in 29 career games (out of 37).
Jenkins and Steve Holdren are the only two Jackrabbit freshmen to lead the team in scoring in their first collegiate game over the last 17 years (dating back to 2000-01 when game-by-game stats were readily available).
Fellow Tacoma native Isaiah Thomas, currently with the Denver Nuggets, had 541 points and 29 double figure games (out of 35 available) through his freshman season at Washington. Through 37 career games, Thomas had 594 points and 31 double-digit scoring performances

Jackrabbits in Two Scheduling Agreements
Summit League and Western Athletic Conference officials announced in October the matchups and dates for the first year of The Summit League/WAC Challenge in men's basketball.
The Challenge features head-to-head competition between all nine teams. Matchups were set based upon factors including the previous year's achievements, records and RPI rankings, as well as projected rankings in the upcoming season. Those teams with home games in 2018 will play on the road in 2019 and vice versa. In addition, teams will not face the same opponent in back-to-back years.
The Jackrabbits played Grand Canyon Nov. 6 in their 2018-19 season opener and will travel to CSU Bakersfield in 2019-20 as part of the agreement.
Last year, the Jacks were announced as part of a four-year deal with the Big Sky.
Each school will play one home game and road contest against separate schools from the other league during each of the four seasons. South Dakota State joins North Dakota State, North Dakota and Omaha as Summit League representatives, while Montana State, Montana, Idaho and Eastern Washington are participating from the Big Sky.
The Jackrabbits will play the following games as part of the agreement:
2018-19: Montana (home), Eastern Washington (away)
2019-20: Idaho (home), Montana State (away)
2020-21: Eastern Washington (home), Montana (away)
2021-22: Montana State (home), Idaho (away)
Tough Tests
South Dakota State played five Power Five (ACC, SEC, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12) opponents a year ago (in addition to a matchup at then-No. 6 Wichita State of the American Athletic Conference).
Although the team does not have any power five opponents on this year's schedule, the Jacks will travel to AAC's Memphis and preseason No. 7/9 Nevada of the Mountain West.
South Dakota State has seven wins over Power Five programs since joining The Summit League in 2007, picking up wins over Iowa State (2008), Iowa (2010 and 2017), Washington (2011), TCU (2015), Minnesota (2015) and Ole Miss (2017).
SDSU's wins over Iowa and Ole Miss in 2017-18 came in the shortest time frame of any Summit League team since 1998 (seven days). The Jackrabbits are the fifth league team to post a win over separate Power Five conferences in the same regular season, and the first to do it since 2009.
In 10 games against power five opponents for his career,
Mike Daum is averaging 18.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per game, shooting 44.1 percent from the field and 44.2 percent from deep. He has two double-doubles in those matchups.
SDSU Last Time Out (Nov. 8)
South Dakota State men's basketball improved to 2-0 on the year with a 78-61 victory over Alabama State Friday evening, taking down the Hornets in front of 2,279 fans at Frost Arena.
The Jackrabbits, led by four double-figure scorers, shot 45.3 percent from the field and never trailed in their nation-best 22nd consecutive home victory.
Mike Daum notched a 23-point, 13-rebound double-double with four assists.
Skyler Flatten finished 6-for-12 from the field with 17 points and five rebounds and
Tevin King added 12 points, five boards and a team-best five assists on 4-for-4 shooting.
Matt Dentlinger reached double figures for the second-straight night, adding 10 points to the Jackrabbit offense to go alongside a seven-rebound performance.
"That wasn't the prettiest game I've ever been a part of—on either end I think," head coach
T.J. Otzelberger said. "I'm proud of our guys for the way they came out and thought we had great energy from the start but that faded throughout the course of the game. It felt like our offensive execution was really good, especially that first half.
"Defensively, (we were) not quite where we wanted to be. So we're continuing to preach to our guys that we're playing against ourselves and trying to be at our best, and certainly that wasn't the case there in the second half and they had a lot to do with that. I mean, their zone—we hadn't seen a lot of zone up to this point. I've spent a lot of time working on it and it's something we definitely need to commit to. But credit to them for mixing it up and putting us on our heels."
South Dakota State started fast as
Skyler Flatten scored the game's first six points, but found itself in an offensive shootout for much of the opening half as Alabama State used a hot hand from beyond the arc to stay within striking distance early.
Tied at 8-all, SDSU scored seven unanswered to gain separation just past the under-16 media, only to see Alabama State hang around and pull back within four (20-16) at 10:44.
The next five minutes of action saw the Jacks' lead grow to double figures (39-28) on a Dentlinger layup, and although the Hornets closed it to seven moments later, a 9-0 scoring burst allowed SDSU to pull away for good late in the half and carry a 54-38 advantage into the locker room.
The Jacks grew their lead to 22 (60-38) behind a pair of
David Jenkins 3-pointers to begin the second half, and although SDSU faced a seven-plus minute scoring drought midway through the second half, a strong defensive showing limited the Hornets from making a significant run.
Flatten hit a 3-pointer at 4:41 to stop the drought and put the Jackrabbits ahead 73-57 and ended any threat of a Hornet comeback as SDSU closed out the victory.
Opponent Last Time Out (Nov. 6)
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (McLeod Center) -- Junior guard Ja Morgan led the Bemidji State University men's basketball team in scoring for the second straight exhibition game despite a 97-51 loss at University of Northern Iowa. Morgan went 6-of-9 shooting from the field while freshman Max Bjorklund totaled seven points in six minutes.
A sluggish start put the Beavers in a hole early after beginning the game 1-of-6 from the field, as BSU's first points came from junior guard Ja Morgan. BSU snapped a 15-2 run by UNI to start the game with a layup by sophomore forward Derek Thompson and a jumper by sophomore guard Jacob Hoffman to bring the deficit to 15-6 five minutes into play.
Northern Iowa's defense held Bemidji State to 1-of-6 shooting over a 4:30 span to extend its initial lead, 29-8. Morgan added six points while junior forward Logan Bader scored four to end the half. BSU outshot UNI over the final 9:28 of the first half, 6-for-13 compared to 6-for-15 for the Panthers. UNI took a 49-24 lead into halftime.
After Morgan and Thompson scored the first three points of the second period, Northern Iowa went on runs of 15-2 and 14-2 through the 8:43 mark. BSU again outshot UNI through the latter half of the period, going 6-for-12 from the field compared to 5-of-18 for the Panthers.
Morgan led all Beavers with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor and 1-for-1 from beyond the arc. He also added three rebounds and one assist. Thompson and Bjorklund followed Morgan with seven points each. Thompson led the team with six rebounds while Bjorklund went 2-for-2 from the field and 3-for-3 from the free throw line in six minutes of play.
