After nearly a week between competitions, the South Dakota State men's golf team returns to the links this weekend when it plays in the 12th-annual Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, presented by Cleveland Golf, in Palm Desert, California.

The three-day, 54-hole event is at the Classic Club, a par 72, 7,305-yard layout, with 18 holes played Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Each day will be a double-tee start off of holes 1 and 10 at 9 a.m.

Competing alongside the Jackrabbits are No. 17 Texas Tech, No. 40 Kansas, No. 49 TCU, No. 52 Colorado State, No. 54 San Francisco, No. 57 San Diego, Boise State, Cal State Fullerton, Cal Poly, Colorado, Denver, Santa Clara, Southern Illinois, Southern Utah, Seattle, Texas-Arlington, UC Riverside, UALR, Western Carolina and Wyoming.

Competing for Texas Tech are Sandy Scott (30th) and Ivan Ramirez (39th), who are ranked among in the top-50 golfers in the NCAA.

Then-No. 19 California won last year's event by shooting an 817. South Dakota State placed 23rd. The Jackrabbits' best finish was in 2015-16, placing 14th. Alejandro Perazzo tied for 19th with a 220 (71-74-75) that year.

In the spring opener at the Thunderbird Invitational Feb. 12, junior Jacob Otta recorded his first top-10 finish, leading the Jackrabbits with a 143 (71-72) to tie for eighth. Perazzo, playing as an individual, also tied for eighth (71-72=143).

For the season, senior Jared Nicolls has a 73.57 stroke average, while Otta (74.14) and Perazzo (76.29) are second and third, respectively.
