The South Dakota State men's golf team will open its spring season at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, Calif. It marks the fifth consecutive year that the Jackrabbits will compete at this tournament.Â
The 21 teams in the field will each play 18 holes a day, Friday through Sunday. Each day will be a double-tee start off of holes 1 and 10 starting at 9 a.m. CT/7 a.m. P.T. at the par 72, 7,305-yard Classic Club.
The field features teams from across the country including: Wyoming, Auburn, Boise State, CSUN, Charlotte, Colorado, Colorado State, Denver, Florida Atlantic, Fresno State, New Mexico State, North Texas, Oregon, San Diego, Seattle, South Dakota State, Southern Utah, TCU, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara and UT Arlington. Of the 21 teams in this year's field, 10 are ranked in Golfstat's top 100 teams.
Texas Tech won the tournament last year with 6-under par 858, while the Jacks finished tied for 17th with 913 (310-295-308).
In the traditional play-five, count-four event, the Jackrabbits' lineup will be Jack Tanner, Jacob Otta, Matthew Schaefer, Sam Batta and Jonah Dohrer.
Tanner held a team-best stroke average in the fall at 74.64. Dohrer and Otta average 75.55 and 75.86, respectively. Last year at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, Otta finished tied for 50th (77-73-74—224).

Last Time Out
The Jackrabbits finished tied for 12th in a highly competitive field at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational. Jack Tanner led the team and tied for 38th with a total of 213 (-3).
