SIOUX FALLS – South Dakota State swimming and diving wrapped up the Jackrabbit Invitational Saturday night at the Midco Aquatic Center.
"This weekend was very encouraging as we prepare for the conference championship," said head coach
Doug Humphrey. "There were a lot of impressive swims and performances. I'm very proud at what we saw and very excited for what we will see in a couple of weeks."
Women
Daniela Santillan took second place in the 1,650 free with a time of 18:15.19.
Rori Conners (18:26.83) and
Megan Schulte (18:34.11) each recorded season-bests in the event, placing fifth and seventh, respectively.
In the 100 IM,
Ashley Theobald led the way with a fourth-place swim of 1:00.35.
Kady Harris finished fifth in 1:00.38.
The Jacks finished three in the top five in the 200 back.
Adria Golla placed third (2:14.30), Santillan fourth (2:15.24) and
Maria Currie fifth (2:15.62).
Alyssa Eckstein won the 200 fly in a career-best 2:06.25. Eckstein later swam a season-best 53.45 in the 100 free to place second while
Katie Drezen finished fourth in 53.73.
Silke Voets led the Jacks in the 200 breast, placing third in a time of 2:28.89.
Relays
SDSU's 'C' team (Voets,
Libby McRae,
Lily Schimke,
Breeanna Wolkerstorfer) placed fourth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:53.04.
Diving
The Jacks finished three in the top four in the 1-meter dive.
Quincee Simonson placed second (249.50),
Abbi Rouse third (229.95) and
Aleni Stoakes fourth (222.00). Simonson led the way in the 3-meter with a fourth-place score of 236.60.
Men
The Jacks swept the top five in the 200 back, with
Parker R. Brown winning the event in a career-best 1:56.38.
Caleb Harthoorn finished second (1:56.90),
Alex Kraft swam a career best to finish third (1:58.09),
Jon Gouger placed fourth (1:58.39) and
Austin Pham fifth (1:58.48).
Will Bierschbach finished fifth in the 100 IM to lead the Jacks in a career-best time of 53.52. He also placed third in the 100 free (47.09) while
Henry Skinner finished fifth in 47.78.
Damon Venner led the Jacks with a third-place time in the 200 breast, a career-best 2:15.15.
Quenton Steffen won the 200 fly for the Jacks in a career-best 2:02.16.
Jacob Sutej (2:02.92) and
Cade Schoenauer (2:04.37) each swam career-best times, finishing third and fourth in the event, respectively.
Relays
The men's 'B' team (
Jared Miller, Steffen, Schoenauer, Kraft) finished second in the 200 medley relay.
Diving
SDSU swept the top three spots in the 3-meter with
Zach Boyd taking first (272.45),
Mitch Raihle second (262.75) and
Erik Thompson third (249.95). Boyd also won the 1-meter with a score of 301.40 and Raihle took silver (267.75).
