South Dakota State (13-1-1, 4-0-1 SUMMIT) topped North Dakota State (2-8-1, 2-2-0 SUMMIT) in a physical contest to earn another three points in the Summit League standings. The Jackrabbits used a late first half goal in the 44
th minute to propel themselves to a 3-0 win over the Bison on a chilly evening at Fishback Soccer Park.
Â
Marisa Schulz,
Maya Hansen and
Cece Limongi all scored goals in the victory while
Kaitlin Zabel,
Katherine Jones,
Rachel Preston and
Avery Murdzek each tallied an assist.
Â
SDSU's defense stifled the Bison attack, allowing only three shots the entire game. Goalkeeper
Jocelyn Tanner made two saves to register the Jacks' eighth, and her seventh, shutout of the season.
Â
Both sides began to generate pressure towards the end of the opening half, the biggest threat which came off the foot of
Teani Arakawa when her shot hit off the crossbar in the 39
th minute. Less than two minutes later, Tanner made an excellent save on NDSU's first shot of the game to keep the Bison off the board.
Â
Schulz started the scoring after she directed a header into the left side of the net off a beautiful free kick that was curled into the box from Zabel in the 44
th minute.
Â
Hansen found the back of the net for fifth consecutive game and 12
th time this season to give the Jacks some breathing room in the 61
st minute. Jones crossed a ball that found the feet of Hansen and she promptly placed it in the top left corner.
Â
SDSU found a late goal in the half for the second time of the match when Murdzek dribbled her way in towards the end line on the left side of the goal and fed a pass to Limongi who tapped it in from close range for an 88
th minute goal.
Â
The Jacks dominated the possession battle, 63% to 37%, and outshot NDSU, 16-3. Two Bison were assessed yellow cards in the match in the 47
th and 66
