KANSAS CITY, Mo. – South Dakota State (12-1-0, 3-0-0 SUMMIT) picked up a tough three points with a shutout at Kansas City (4-9-0, 2-1-0 SUMMIT) Friday night at Durwood Soccer Stadium. The Jacks posted their seventh consecutive victory, and eighth clean sheet of the season, with a 1-0 triumph over the Roos.
SDSU needed only one goal to prevail, which came in the form of a
Maya Hansen free kick in the 25
th minute.
Karlee Manding drew a foul just outside of the penalty box that gave the Jacks the free kick, and Hansen confidently curled it past the Roos' defensive wall and into the net for her 10
th goal of the year.
Jocelyn Tanner (8-1) made a career-high six saves as she fended off a resilient Kansas City attack. The sophomore keeper recorded her sixth shutout of the season, a top 25 mark in the nation.
Kansas City nearly drew level when a Roos' free kick in the 70
th minute deflected off the cross bar.
The Jackrabbit defensive line, led by a 90-minute effort from
Rachel Preston, held firm when called upon to help preserve the shutout.
SDSU owned the possession battle, 57% to 43%, but was outshot for just the second time this season as the Roos finished with 15 shots compared to the Jacks' 13.
