PALM DESERT, Calif. - The South Dakota State men's golf team dropped a pair of matches Friday at the Wyoming Desert match play event at the Classic Club golf course.
The Jackrabbits opened the day with a 4-1-1 loss to Colorado.
Blake Schaper was the only Jackrabbit winner in the opening round, finishing 2-up on Colorado's Jack Holland with one hole left to play. Schaper opened up a three-hole lead through five holes, then Holland came all the way back to tie to match at the 14th hole. Schaper won holes 15 and 17 to hold off Holland for the win.
Jonah Dohrer tied with Colorado's Tucker Clark. Dohrer won hole three to take the lead until Clark tied things up with a point on hole eight. Down by two through 13, Dohrer pulled even with back-to-back wins and the competitors stayed even through the remainder of the match.
Ty Kretz fell in a tight match to CU's Dylan McDermott, 3 & 1. Kretz trailed by three though 10, then battled back to win the next two and trail by just one after 14 holes. McDermott took two of the next three for the win.
Matthew Schaefer fell 7 & 5 to Justin Biwer.
Luke Honner fell 4 & 3 to Hunter Swanson and
Tyler Seeling lost 1 & 4 to Jack Hughes.
SDSU was swept by Seattle, 6-0-0, in round two. Schaper played the closest match for SDSU, 2 & 2, and had things tied up through nine holes. Seattle's Ben Ragland took holes 11 and 12 and the duo tied every remaining hole.
The Jackrabbits will play the final round of the event Saturday morning against Boise State.
