PALM DESERT, Calif. - The South Dakota State men's golf team wrapped up the Wyoming Desert Match Play tournament with a win over Boise State Saturday at the Classic Club Golf Course.
The Jacks topped the Broncos, 5-1-0, in the event's seventh-place match.
Ty Kretz played in the No. 1 spot for the Jacks this weekend. The sophomore beat Boise State's Max Charles 3 & 2. Kretz was either tied or trailing Charles through 10, but won consecutive holes to take a lead and hung on to pick up a point for the Jacks.
Matthew Schaefer and
Blake Schaper won tightly contested 2 & 1 matches over their Boise State counterparts. Although Schaefer's match came down to the final hole, the senior never trailed his competitor. Schaper was tied through five, then took a lead on hole six that he would not give up the rest of the way.
Luke Honner posted a 7 & 6 victory over the Broncos' Drew Reinke. Honner won seven of the first eight holes to earn an early win.
Tyler Seeling won 3 & 2. Seeling was down after 11 holes, then won four of the next five to go up over Nick Hedman.
Jonah Dohrer dropped his match 4 & 2 to Will O'Connor.
UP NEXT
SDSU is off until the first weekend in March. The Jacks play in the Desert Mountain Collegiate tournament hosted by Michigan March 4-5 in Scottsdale, Arizona.
