BROOKINGS, SD – The South Dakota State men's and women's track and field teams will kick off their outdoor season with meets in Nebraska and Kansas this weekend.

The Wildcat Classic at Wayne State College starts on Friday with hammer throw at 11 a.m. and the javelin at 12:30 p.m. Saturday's action return with more field events and the running events at 11 a.m.

Jackrabbits will also be competing at the ESU Relays at Emporia State University. Field events on Friday are set to start at 3 p.m. while running events begin at 4 p.m. Competition on Saturday will resume with field at 11:30 a.m. and running at noon.

SDSU MEN AND WOMEN PICKED THIRD IN PRESEASON POLL: The South Dakota State men's and women's track and field teams were each selected to finish third in the Summit League for the incoming outdoor season.

The Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships are set for May 11-13 in Fargo, North Dakota.

Placed 11^th in the hammer throw at the 2022 League outdoor championships with a career-best throw of 179-7 (54.75m)
Finished seventh in the shot put at the League outdoor championships with a mark of 57-06.25 (17.53m)
Finished in the top five of the shot put in four meets last season

Reid Pierzinski, South Dakota State
Sr | Sprints/Hurdles | Nisswa, Minn.

Defended his 400m hurdle crown at the 2022 League outdoor championships with a time of 50.91, breaking the previous record (51.27) set back in 1990
Ran a leg of the 4x100m relay that took second at the League outdoor championships with a time of 40.57
Was a member of the 4x400m relay squad that took fifth at the League outdoor championships with a time of 3:21.55

Leah Hansen, South Dakota State

Took gold at the 2022 League outdoor championships in the 5,000m (16:54.60) and the 10,000m (35:37.00)
Clocked a career-best 5,000m time of 16:16.46 at the Bryan Clay Invitational
