TRACK SQUADS FLOURISH AT MINNESOTA, MMU

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – The South Dakota State track and field teams found success at the Running on Hope Invitational MMU Twilight meets on Wednesday as they start a busy few days of competition.
RUNNING ON HOPE INVITATIONAL
The men's side of competition started hot with Evan Henderson in the 100-meter dash, where he ran a 10.65 in the prelims before clocking a 10.85 in the finals.
Ryan Benson represented SDSU in the 110-meter hurdle finals and ran a 15.34 for a fifth place overall finish. He also finished sixth in the long jump with a mark of 21-04.00 and took fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.39 as Jeremiah Donahoe finished seventh in a personal best 56.96 seconds.
Three Jackrabbits finished in the top 10 of the 200-meter dash and all earned new personal bests. They were led by Reid Pierzinski, who took third place in 21.55 seconds while Thailan Hallman finished eighth with a 21.81 and Reggie Slaba came ninth in 21.87.
Pierzinski then went on to win the 400-meter dash in a personal best 47.49 seconds, which is now second on the SDSU all-time list. Hallman claimed second place in the event with an outdoor personal best of 48.02 that is fifth in school history and Slaba took third in 48.14 for an outdoor PR and the eighth fastest time on record.
Andrew Moeller ran a 1:55.87 in the 800-meter run for a fifth place overall finish.
On the women's side, Ashtyn Bertram took 12th place in the 100-meter dash prelims with her clocking of 12.64.
Savannah Risseeuw finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdle finals with a 14.34 while Brielle Dixon took fifth in 14.50 seconds. Lizzy Gillingham ran a personal best 15.50 in the prelims of the event.
Cerington Jones led a trio of Jacks to top 10 finishes in the 200-meter dash after finishing in third place with a personal best time of 24.49 that is now tenth in SDSU history. Lauren Van Dyke took sixth in a personal best 25.27 and Emily Rystrom was 10th in 25.75. Jessica Boekelheide also earned a PR with a time of 26.12.
Jenna Johnson took third in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:03.30 as Laura Bogue finished ninth in 1:05.05 and Abby Hughes ran a 1:06.21 for 12th place.
Van Dyke won the women's 400-meter dash in 56.29 seconds as Erika Kuntz clocked a 58.31 for fourth place. Boekelheide came eighth in a personal best 58.71 and Rystrom finished ninth in 58.88.
MMU TWILIGHT
SDSU throwers and jumpers had their chance at competition in Yankton and gathered several event wins throughout the day.
Tristin Hanna kicked it off by winning the javelin with a throw of 178-08.50. He also finished in sixth place of the triple jump with a 40-02.75 while Max Keefer was the event runner-up with a personal best distance of 44-09.75.
Tre Manning won the long jump with a mark of 24-01.00 while Sam Rohlfs took fourth place with a 21-11.50.
Matthew Katz was crowned champion of the pole vault with his height of 15-10.25 as Jaden Peters took third with a 15-02.25.
Connor Powers tied for runner-up in the high jump with a clearance of 6-06.75.
Wyatt Seagren was runner-up in the men's discus throw with a 170-04.25 while Noah Jessup took third with a personal best 157-05.75. Jessup then finished seventh in the shot put after throwing a 45-09.25.
Madison Kizer won the high jump with a clearance of 5-07.00 while Layne Kirkendoll and Taylor Jochum tied for second with a 5-01.00.
Greta Johnson tied for eighth in the pole vault with a height of 9-10.25 and Jaiden Boomsma won the 100-meter dash in a speedy 12.14 seconds.
Annie Wendt led five Jackrabbits to the long jump finals with her jump of 18-07.25. Boomsma came third (18-02.50), Jordan Stoddard finished fifth (17-10.25), Kirkendoll was seventh (17-07.50) and Shae Campbell took eighth (17-05.25.).
Sydney Mouw led SDSU in the triple jump finals with her mark of 35-10.75 for fifth place while Emma Smith took seventh with a personal best 35-08.50 and Camryn Brinkman was ninth with a 35-03.00.
Kirsten Kilker claimed 14th place in the hammer throw with a mark of 131-01.75 while Paige Haakenson threw a 93-00.25 for 11th place overall in the javelin.
Faith Leiseth was the overall runner-up of the discus with a throw of 151-07.00 while Kilker finished at the top of her flight with a personal best 110-08.75.
Leiseth then won the shot put with her mark of 46-11.00 as Haakenson took sixth place overall with a throw of 40-06.25 and Kilker finished 13th with a 36-02.25.
UP NEXT: SDSU will continue the week's competition at the Kip Janvrin Open and Drake Relays in Iowa from Thursday to Saturday.
