Brookings, S.D. - The Jackrabbit wrestling program opens up their home dual slate this Friday, Nov. 15th, against Augustana starting at 7 p.m. It is the first event of a weekend that includes three straight days of wrestling for the Jacks.
On Saturday, Tanner Jordan and Cade DeVos will compete in the NWCA All-Star Classic at Rec Hall in State College, Pa. The event will begin at 6 p.m. CST.
Finally, the Jacks host the Daktronics Invitational in the SJAC on Sunday. The Daktronics Invitational will include wrestlers from Minnesota, Air Force, Arizona State, Oklahoma, NDSU and Nebraska, and many Jackrabbits. The invitational tournament will start at 10 a.m.

Warren Williamson Daktronics Invitational
The Jackrabbits will host wrestlers from Minnesota, Air Force, Arizona State, Oklahoma, NDSU and Nebraska on Sunday for the Daktronics Invitational. The matches will begin at 10 a.m.
At last year's Daktronics Invitational, the Jackrabbits brought home three champions: Tanner Jordan, Derrick Cardinal and Luke Rasmussen. Derrick Cardinal and Luke Rasmussen will compete in this year's Invitational, while Jordan will compete the day before at the NWCA All-Star Classic.
Bison and DWU Open Recap
Bison Open
The Jackrabbit wrestling program started their season on Saturday at the Bison Open. SDSU put up a strong showing at the Bison Open, crowning six champions.
Tanner Jordan and Brady Roark paced the pack at 125 pounds at the Bison Open. Jordan went 3-0 with two wins by technical fall and one by major decision. Roark went 4-0 with two wins by major decision, one win by tech fall and one by decision. The duo was crowned co-champions at 125 pounds.
Derrick Cardinal put up a dominant performance at 133 pounds. He scored two tech fall wins en route to a 2-0 record and the 133-pound championship at the Bison Open. Avery Allen got past an opening-round loss to Dawson Johson to go 3-1 on the day and take home the championship at 141 pounds. Colin Dupil and Daniel Kimball finished second and third at 149 pounds, going 2-1 and 1-2, respectively. Moses Espinoza-Owens finished third at 157 pounds, going 3-1 with one win by pinfall.
The Jacks dominated at 165 pounds as Drake Rhodes, Connor Gaynor and Marcus Espinoza-Owens finished first, second and third, respectively. Rhodes finished the day 3-0 with two wins by tech fall, Gaynor went 2-1 with one win by pinfall, and Espinoza-Owens went 4-1 with his only loss coming to his teammate Gaynor.
Cody Donnelly shot out to a quick 2-0 start with two wins by pinfall in the first minute of his matches. He would go 3-1 daily, finishing second in the 197-pound weight class. Brock Fettig put up a 3-1 record in his debut at 197, and Thomas Dineen went 2-1 with a tech fall and a major decision win.
Luke Rasmussen dominated his two matches at the Bison Open, going 2-0 and taking home the title at 285 pounds after two major decision wins.
DWU Open
The Jackrabbits sent five freshmen, Jared Thiry and Regan Bollweg to Mitchell, S.D. to compete in the DWU Open at Dakota Wesleyan. The Jacks brought home 4 champions from the DWU Open.
In their first collegiate action at 133 pounds, Cale Seaton and Logan Swensen went 4-0 in their bracket before being crowned co-champions at 133 pounds. Swensen had two wins by pinfall, and Seaton scored bonus points in two matches.
Tyson Peach went a perfect 5-0 in his first collegiate action with two wins by pinfall, one by major decision and one by tech fall on his way to the 141-pound title at the DWU Open.
Quin Morgan got a pinfall in his debut for the Jacks and didn't look back. Morgan would finish 5-0 with two wins by pinfall, one by tech fall and two by decision on his way to the 197-pound crown at the DWU Open.
Burk Blasius finished as the runner-up at 184 pounds, going 4-1 in action on Saturday, He would win three matches by technical fall but would come just short in the championship match against Augustana's Cade Mueller.
In other action, Jared Thiry went 4-2 in competition on the day, including one major decision and one tech fall win. Heavyweight Regan Bollweg dropped his first match by pin but rallied back, finishing fifth and putting up a 4-2 record on the day.
Jackrabbit Summary
The South Dakota State Jackrabbit Wrestling program is looking to capitalize on a successful 2023-24 season as they return to action in 2024-25 under head coach Damion Hahn.
The return of three All-Americans highlights the squad: Tanner Jordan (125), Cade DeVos (174), and Bennett Berge (184). They return alongside NCAA qualifiers Derrick Cardinal (133), Alek Martin (149), and Cael Swensen (157).SDSU returns to the mat in 2024-25 after finishing third in the Big 12 Championships and 13th at the NCAA Championships in 2023-24. The Big 12 Championships were highlighted by the crowning of Cade DeVos (174) and Tanner Sloan (197) as champions in their respective weight classes.
The Jacks are coming off a season in 2023-24 where they had a program-record four All-Americans and a program-record-tying eight NCAA Qualifiers. The Jacks went 13-4 in dual meets and 7-2 in conference duals. This is highlighted by a 7-1 home record for South Dakota St. with wins over Air Force and Wyoming.
SDSU is full of new faces, as the program brought in 12 newcomers in the offseason. Six of the newcomers are freshmen. This includes Burk Blasius, Kenton Cooke, Shane McConville, Logan Swensen, Tyson Peach, and Quin Morgan. Sophomore Jacob Fistler wrestled with the JWC last year but has now been added to the 2024-25 squad.
In September, the Jackrabbits announced the addition of four transfers from the University of Iowa. Those include Zach Glazier, Cobe Siebrecht, Cade Siebrecht and Drake Rhodes.
Glazier was the runner-up at 197 pounds at the Big 10 Championships for Iowa in 2023-24. He put together a 37-9 record over 4 years with Iowa, including a 9-4 record against ranked opponents in 2023-24.
Cobe Siebrecht sat out of competition in 2023-24, but in 2022-23, Siebrecht was an NCAA Qualifier at 157 pounds and finished seventh at the Big 10 Championships. He put together a 21-11 record over three years of competition at Iowa.
The Jacks are led by head coach Damion Hahn, who is in his seventh year at the helm of SDSU. Hahn holds a record of 58-34 overall and a Big 12 dual record of 28-21. The 2023-24 season was his best mark by far as the leader of the Jackrabbit wrestling program, as the team went 13-4 in duals. SDSU received their highest preseason ranking from InterMat under Hahn as they are recieved a No. 9 ranking in the pre-season, and are No. 10 and No. 12 in the FloWrestling and NWCA Coaches polls for the preseason, respectively. He is joined by Cam Simaz, Cody Caldwell, and Clay Carlson as his assistant coaches.
Key Storylines
The New: South Dakota State added four transfers in September from the University of Iowa: Zach Glazier, Cobe and Cade Siebrecht and Drake Rhodes. The transfers come in alongside six freshmen.

Experience Matters: The projected starting lineup for the Jackrabbits this year includes five athletes in their sixth year of collegiate eligibility. Amongst those five athletes, they total eight NCAA Qualifications, 1 Big 12 Title and two All-American honors.
In the Rankings: SDSU is ranked No. 13 in the NWCA Coaches Poll this week. They dropped down one spot from No. 12 the previous two weeks. The Jackrabbits are ranked No. 8 in InterMat's tournament rankings and No. 9 in FloWrestling.
Home Mat Advantage: The Jackrabbits put up a home record in 2023-24 of 7-1. Their only loss came to fellow ranked program Missouri, only losing the dual 19-21. SDSU scored over 30 points in six of their eight home duals.
In the Classroom: The SDSU wrestling program had the fourth-highest team GPA in the country amongst wrestling programs last year, according to NWCA. The Jackrabbits compiled a 3.5416 team grade-point average to receive the team recognition for the fourth season and were the highest-ranking Big 12 Conference school.
New Staff, Old Faces: Two-Time All-American Clay Carlson was added to the wrestling coaching staff in the offseason as an assistant coach. Carlson wrestled at SDSU for six years and was a four-time NCAA qualifier, two-time All-American and two-time Big 12 Wrestling scholar athlete of the year. Brady Berge was also promoted from volunteer assistant coach to the head coach of the JWC regional training center.
NWCA All-Star Classic: Tanner Jordan and Cade DeVos were selected to participate in the 2024 NWCA All-Star Classic in State College, Pa. Tanner Jordan will take on Jore Volk from Wyoming in a matchup that will be No. 2 vs. No. 5 in the 125-pound weight class. Cade DeVos will take on Levi Haines from Penn State in a matchup of No. 2 vs. No. 3 in the 174-pound weight class. It will be Haines' debut at 174 pounds.
Offseason work: Cael Swensen finished second at the U23 National Duals in Geneva, Ohio, over the summer in the 74-kilogram division. Fellow Jackrabbits Marcus Espinoza Owens, Kail Wynia, Thomas Dineen, Derrick Cardinal and Brock Fettig competed at the event, with Wynia and Dineen placing fourth in their respective divisions.
A Look Ahead
The next event for the Jacks is their dual against Northern Iowa on Nov. 24th in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The Panthers are ranked 14th in the NWCA Coaches Poll, one spot below the Jackrabbits. Bennett Berge will have an interesting test ahead of him in the Panther's 184-pounder Parker Keckeisen, who is ranked No. 2 in the country at 184 pounds.
