SEVEN JACKRABBITS TO COMPETE AT NCAA PRELIMS

BROOKINGS, SD – South Dakota State track and field has earned seven declared entries to the 2024 Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships preliminary round, the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country committee announced.
Brielle Dixon, Ethan Fischer, Leah Hisken, Madison Kizer, Cody Larson, Nora Peterson and Jake Werner will all represent SDSU at the NCAA West Prelims in Fayetteville, AR beginning tomorrow.
Athletes earn qualifications by ranking in the top 48 of their respective events or the top 24 in the relays in the West Region. The top 12 finishers of each event at the West and East Preliminary Rounds will compete at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon from June 5-8.
Dixon enters the meet after breaking the 100-meter hurdle school record twice during the month of May, most recently with a time of 13.37 for third at the conference championship meet. Fischer was runner-up in the discus throw at the Summit League meet and broke the school record in April with a 186-06.00.
Hisken defended both her 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter run titles at the Summit League championships and set a new school record time of 33:59.68 in the 10,000. Kizer enters the meet with the third-best high jump mark in school history with a height of 5-09.25 while Larson also ranks third All-Time at SDSU in the 3000-meter steeplechase with an 8:52.44.
Peterson recently finished as runner-up at the conference meet and shattered the school javelin throw record in April with her mark of 156-04.00. Finally, Werner comes into NCAA competition after taking third in the 100-meter dash and second in the 200-meter at the league championships.
