BROOKINGS, S.D. — South Dakota State plays in its final non-conference match of the 2024 season on Thursday when the Jackrabbits host USC Upstate. The meeting between the Jacks and Spartans is slated for a 6 p.m. kickoff at Fishback Soccer Park.Â
Â
SDSU enters the match with a 6-2-1 record and USC Upstate stands at 3-2-2. SDSU and USC Upstate battle for the first time. USC Upstate, whose campus sits in Spartanburg, South Carolina, is coming off an 11-win season in 2023 which matched the program's most victories along with its best ever .684 win percentage. The Spartans made their first Big South Championship game appearance last year, falling in the title game 2-1 to Radford.

The match serves as Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night, as well as the annual "Feed The Fans" match presented by Cubby's. Fans will receive a complimentary meal, courtesy of Cubby's, while supplies last.
Â
The Jackrabbits had a drastically different pair of matches take place last week. After cruising to a 4-0 victory against Wayne State on Thursday, SDSU had to rally from a two-goal deficit to earn a 3-2 victory at Oregon State on Sunday.
Â
SDSU fell down 2-0 in the first half versus the Beavers, but scored a goal in the 44th minute courtesy of
Avery Murdzek to cut the score to 2-1 at the half. A 59th minute penalty kick goal by
Kaycee Manding, along with a 61st minute goal by
Avery LeBlanc, propelled the Jacks to the 3-2 victory. It was their first ever Oregon State.
Â
The Jacks' two goal comeback was their first since 2022. SDSU earned a 3-2 win at Northern Arizona on Aug. 23 of that season behind three third-half goals.
The SDSU program has had a mix of standout matches on the attack and defensively this season. A few statistics stick out through nine contests. The Jackrabbits rank third at the Division I level in corner kicks per game averaging 9.11. SDSU also ranks 10th in the country in shots per game at 21.11.
