South Dakota State hosts its home finale inside First Bank & Trust Arena on Sunday when the Jackrabbits take on Kansas City. The 1 p.m. game is part of SDSU's Senior Day which will see the program recognize
Isaac Lindsey,
Nate Barnhart and
Oscar Cluff.Â
The Jackrabbits and Roos meet for the second time this season after a nail-biter in Kansas City on Jan. 23. The matchup featured 14 lead changes and nine tie scores over the course of 40 minutes. SDSU led the final 10 minutes of the contest, but its lead was down to 65-64 and the Roos had the ball with 7.9 seconds remaining. The Jacks thwarted the Roos' final possession preventing the home side from getting a shot off.Â
SDSU is 23-7 all-time against Kansas City. The Jackrabbits have won 11 of the last 12 meetings. SDSU is 14-2 in the series at home versus the Roos.
South Dakota State saw a three-game win streak halted on Wednesday in a 77-68 defeat to North Dakota State. The loss was the Jackrabbits' first in First Bank & Trust Arena. The Jacks were held to their second lowest field goal percentage (39.4%) in a game this season. SDSU had four double-digit scorers paced by 14 apiece from
Oscar Cluff and
Owen Larson.
The game also saw Cluff claim his 19th double-double of the season. Cluff's five offensive rebounds in the game propelled him to a program single-season record of 115. He's currently leading the country in rebounding at 12.6 per game.
Kansas City enters the matchup behind consecutive losses. The Roos dropped their last contest to Omaha in Kansas City on Wednesday, 78-66. Kansas City has three players average double digits scoring paced by Jamar Brown (16.1). He also leads the Roos in rebounding at 7.4 per game.
The Summit League schedule ends in one week's time and plenty has to be decided. Kansas City, at 3-10 in conference play, currently sits eighth in the league standings. The Roos, which would at this time open the conference tournament in the first round on March 5, can move up to as high as the sixth seed. SDSU is currently third at 9-4 while the Jackrabbits are 18-10 overall.Â
