BROOKINGS, S.D. — South Dakota State women's soccer played Pac-12 opponent Oregon State to a hard-fought 1-1 draw on Sunday at Fishback Soccer Park.
The Jackrabbits (3-1-3) struck early and dominated much of the match statistically, but a second-half equalizer from the Beavers (0-3-3) forced SDSU to settle for a tie in front of 318 fans.
Freshman forward
Emma Brezenski continued her strong start to the season, netting her second goal of the year in the eighth minute. The goal came on a strike that just found its way inside the crossbar, while
MaKynlie Cade was credited with an assist on the finish.
SDSU controlled the tempo throughout by outshooting Oregon State, 27-9, including an 18-4 advantage in the second half. The Jackrabbits also earned 13 corner kicks to the Beavers' 3 and held 58% of the possession.
Despite the pressure, Oregon State found the equalizer just after halftime. In the 48th minute, Emily Ibsen capitalized on a corner kick opportunity, finishing a pass from London Tsuma to level the match at 1-1.
The Jackrabbits continued to press for a winner, withÂ
Adrianne Agbayani recording multiple shots on goal, but Oregon State goalkeeper Mya Sanchez stood tall with eight saves. SDSU goalkeeperÂ
Mallorie Benhart made six saves of her own, including a pair of key stops in the first half to preserve the early lead.
