South Dakota State hosts South Dakota on Thursday as a part of the Interstate Series, presented by First Interstate Bank. The Jackrabbits and Coyotes square off at 6 p.m. at Fishback Soccer Park.
The match features the top two teams in Pod A of The Summit League standings. South Dakota earned a pair of victories over Omaha (1-0) and St. Thomas (3-0) last week to jump up to the top spot with 12 points behind a 3-1-3 record. SDSU lost to St. Thomas by a 1-0 score last Thursday, but bounced back with a 2-0 win at Omaha on Sunday. The Jackrabbits have 11 points in the league standings with a 3-2-2 record. The two foes vie for a position atop the pod, while both are still in the hunt currently for the regular season title. Oral Roberts sits atop the conference standings with a 5-0-2 record (17 points).
The first Interstate Series meeting of the season served as the conference opener for SDSU and USD. The Sept. 24 match between the two foes concluded in a scoreless draw in Vermillion. That contest saw the Jackrabbits end the match with a 17-14 edge in shots, as well as a 6-3 margin in shots on goal.
It's been a closely contested series of late between the Jacks and Yotes. SDSU is 2-1-4 against South Dakota since the 2021 season, though one of SDSU's wins came in postseason play. The Jackrabbits have not won a regular season match at Fishback Soccer Park against the Coyotes since 2018. That season saw SDSU claim a 1-0 double overtime victory over South Dakota.
The Jackrabbits are 8-4-3 overall this season. In seven conference matches, SDSU has a league-high 13 assists as a team. The Jackrabbits 51 total assists on the season rank third in Division I women's soccer. That mark is already a single-season program record, topping the previous mark of 48 set just last year.
Leading SDSU dishing assists this season are
Mia Bosch,
Hannah Langstaff and
Ellie Gusman. Bosch has a team-high eight assists which is one shy from her career-high nine set in 2025. Her 20 career assists rank third in program history, trailing Nicole Hatcher (2014-17) with a record 23 and Diana Potterveld's 21 she notched from 2012-15. Langstaff didn't have an assist coming into the season during her college career, while Gusman's previous best in a year was four as a freshman in 2023. All three players rank among the top 55 in the country individually.
Conference play has seen SDSU and USD among the top three teams in multiple categories. The Coyotes rank second in scoring (1.43 per game) and third in opponent average (0.71). The Jacks rank second in opponent average (0.57) and third in scoring (1.14). South Dakota has recorded a league-high 132 shots in seven matches, while SDSU is second with 105.
The two sides are buoyed by their keepers. In league play, SDSU's
Mallorie Benhart ranks second in goals against average (0.57) and fourth in save percentage (.826). South Dakota's Cambell Fischer is second in save percentage (.848) and third in goals against average (0.71).
