MALIBU, Calif. - The SDSU Jackrabbits suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday on the road at Pepperdine, 3-0.Â
The Waves exploited the Jacks early and maintained control throughout, as outside hitter Chloe Pravednikov and middle blocker Ella Piskorz each recorded double-digit kills while hitting over .400.
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
Set 1: The Jacks traded points early with the Waves, but a 4-0 run by Pepperdine jolted the Waves ahead, where they took care of business against the Jacks, going on two separate three-point runs and taking the set 25-16.
Set 2: The Jacks fared better in the second set against the Waves, trading blows before hopping out to a 15-13 lead on the back of two kills from Marisa Michaelis. But the Waves would rally back first with a three-point run, followed by a four-point run and then finished off the set with another three-point run to steal the set from the Jackrabbits, 25-19.
Set 3: The two teams once again went back and forth in the third set, trading points all the way up to 9-9. A kill by Pepperdine's Pravednikov sparked a 6-0 run that put the Jackrabbits down by 8, 21-13. Junior pin hitter Katelyn Van Kirk exited late in the set with an injury. The Jacks fought back from 23–18 with consecutive kills by Hannah Mlsna and Hannah Klein, but Pepperdine held on to complete the sweep, 25-21.
