BROOKINGS, S.D. - SDSU took care of business Saturday, as they swept the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles, 3-0.
Hannah Klein put up a standout performance for the Jacks as she put down 11 kills on 19 swings, with only one error, hitting .526 for the game. She also added four aces, two digs, and 15 points. Sylvie Zgonc found her rhythm in set three as she added eight kills in the set, bringing her total to 14 on the day. Rylee Martin added 34 assists, alongside 11 digs for another double-double. Josyln Richardson led the way on defense, leading the team in digs with 15.
For Oral Roberts, Cortnee Smith and Quincey McCoy led the team with seven and four kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set 1: The Jackrabbits came out hot, putting together two separate 3-0 runs in the first 10 points, racing out to a 10-4 lead.
Hannah Klein was on fire in the first set, adding four kills during the two SDSU runs. From there, the Jacks never looked back, landing blow after blow on the Golden Eagles and extending the lead to 22-14, with three more kills from Klein. Two errors by the Golden Eagles allowed the Jacks to clinch the set, 25-15.
Set 2: The Jackrabbits continued to outpace Oral Roberts in the second set, as the attack errors piled up for the Golden Eagles. The Jackrabbits raced out to a seven-point lead and forced the media timeout at a score of 15-7. Oral Roberts fought back, landing a 3-0 run of their own late in the second set, but it was too late as kills from
Sylvie Zgonc and
Taylor Byl secured the set for the Jackrabbits, 25-16.
Set 3: The third set was wire-to-wire domination for SDSU as the Jacks got out of the gates hot, with a 6-2 run to start the set. The Golden Eagles were able to cut the deficit to three, but SDSU unleashed their second 11-0 run of the homestand, behind three aces from
Hannah Klein, which put the lead at 19-6. From there, the Golden Eagles couldn't recover, as
Sylvie Zgonc put down a kill and finished off the set and the match, 25-12 and 3-0.
NOTES:
- The SDSU defense was able to hold Oral Roberts to a .000 hitting percentage.
- Rylee Martin recorded her second double-double of the homestand. She sits 10 assists behind Melia Iwamoto for 9th all-time in program history.
- Joslyn Richardson recorded 15 digs, her seventh game this season with 15 or more digs.
- Hannah Klein hit .526 in the match, her highest hitting percentage of the season.
- Sylvie Zgonc ends the week with 1,605 career kills, fourth all-time for the Jacks. She is just three digs away from 1,000 digs.
