South Dakota State continues its home stand with its final home non-conference matches of the regular season. The Jackrabbits host back-to-back games at Fishback Soccer Park this week. SDSU will take on Colorado College at 7 p.m. on Thursday, followed by a noon first kick on Sunday against Idaho.Â
The Jacks improved to 4-1 overall after a 5-0 victory over Western Illinois in Brookings last Thursday. SDSU had five goal scorers in the match, including a two-assist performance by
Hannah Langstaff, along with three-point efforts from
Brianna Finnegan and
Emily Krings. SDSU's start is one of its best in recent memory. The Jackrabbits previously won their first five games of the 2021 season and began that year 12-1. The 2023 campaign saw SDSU win its first four matches and start 7-1, while 2022 featured a 6-0-3 start.Â
South Dakota State ranks among the best nationally in several categories. The Jackrabbits have the most assists by a Division I squad with 31. SDSU also ranks second in points (81) and third in goals (25). The Jacks are ranked second in the country in goal differential (+23) and in the top 10 in shutout percentage (.800).Â
SDSU faces Colorado College for the second time. The Jackrabbits and Tigers squared off for the first time two seasons ago. That match in August of 2024 saw State finish with a 21-9 edge in shots, but Colorado College used a 66th minute goal to earn a 1-0 victory.Â
The Tigers are currently 2-2-1 this season. Colorado College opened the season with wins over Creighton (3-1) and Drake (1-0). The Tigers fell 6-0 on Aug. 23 at Oklahoma, but rebounded with a scoreless draw at Denver.Â
Sunday's match versus Idaho will be the first all-time meeting between the two squads. The Vandals visit South Dakota on Thursday prior to the trip to Brookings. Idaho opened the season with a 3-0 win over Washington State and holds a 3-1-1 overall record
South Dakota State closes out its non-conference slate next week. The Jackrabbits travel to the state of Utah to face Weber State (Sept. 10) and Utah State (Sept. 13). The Jacks will have an 11-day break between games when they open their Summit League schedule on Sept. 24 at South Dakota.Â
