BROOKINGS, S.D. ? Kelsey Worcester scored two goals on the night as South Dakota State defeated IPFW, 3-0, Friday night in United Soccer Conference action at Fishback Soccer Park.
Worcester, a junior from Anamosa, Iowa, broke a scoreless deadlock in the 32nd minute off an assist from
Erin Kasmarik. Kellyn Farrell looked to give the Jacks a 2-0 advantage one minute later, but saw her shot saved by Shannon Lynn.
Farrell, a Littleton, Colo., native, put the Jacks ahead in the match by scoring a goal off an assist from her sister Kerstyn in the second half. Worcester netted an insurance goal in the 64th minute off a pass from Kelly Larson to secure the 3-0 victory for SDSU.
The Jackrabbits outshot the Mastodons 21-12 in the contest as several Jackrabbit players had scoring opportunities on the night. Farrell paced the Jackrabbit offense with eight shot attempts for the match, while Worcester chipped in with four.
The shutout marked the fourth time this season the Jackrabbits have held an opponent scoreless for a match and the sixth contest in seven games SDSU has held an opponent off the scoreboard for a half. Nicole Lograsso made five stops on the day, while Lynn recorded nine saves.
The Jackrabbits moved to 4-8-2 on the year and 1-1-0 in the USC, while IPFW dropped to 3-8-1 on the season and 1-1-0 in conference play.
South Dakota State will be back in action Sunday when it takes on Minnesota on senior day at Fishback Soccer Park in Brookings. Start time for the match against the Golden Gophers is set for 1 p.m.
